Help With License Plate Garnish

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so sorry if this is not the correct place to post... but does anyone know how to install the front license plate garnish?

I bought a used 06 Evo Ix without the front plates. I live in CA, which requires front plates so I don't want to risk it. I just purchased the Garnish which goes on the front left side; and what was given was the garnish, and 3 bolts (no nuts or washers).

I noticed the Evo has 3 holes (covered with black tabs) where the garnish goes. Now the question is: Am I supposed to drill the bolts onto the tabs? or am I supposed to remove the tabs and use bolts, washers, and nuts (no washers/ nuts included) to mount it?

The problem with using washers/ nuts/ bolts is that I can't reach the bolts behind the bumper because the bumper frame is blocking it. Am I supposed to remove the bumper?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The kit mounts with 3 bolts and 3 expanding rubber nuts. Do the black tabs have a bolt hole, if they don't you with have to get some new expanding nuts. If you go to a good hardware store, they probably have some for less than the dealer's price. The dealer will sell you the complete kit for ~$30.

Wait until you get pull over and get ticket for it, why risk it? why pay those money to government when you can put those money into your evo or on gas?

I think the dealer or port puts those little rubber things in the front bumper. My evo came with the front plate stuff in the trunk and no holes or rubber things in the front bumper. Anybody need the front mounting stuff PM I almost threw it away when cleaning out the garage today.

As long as you have the parts you described, the holes drilled in the bumper and the rubber grommets installed in those holes than you are good to go.I don't think you will have to removed your bumper to install the bracket. FYI I live in Los Angeles and have had the car since Sep 06 and have never been pulled over for no front license plate.Good luck.

Thanks for all the help guys. The tabs covering the holes are NOT rubber they are plastic. So I guess I gotta find the rubber ones which fit the bolts. (1/4-28 I believe)

BTW: I would try the whole "I'm waiting for the bracket" excuse but Cops in my area are ****** though. Plus the car is rally red with the ralliart lip... a little sporty to go unnoticed.

Right now I've got the plate mounted to the mesh. But its blocking the intercooler.

The original bolts are metric, but a the expanding rubber nuts are designed to stretch, so english or metric should work and you should be able to find them at a good hardware store locally.

Found it, rub nuts, rawl nuts or well nuts i.e.

I got pulled over 2 weeks ago for doing 47 in a 35 zone, and the jerko cop threw in a citation for driving w/o 2 license plates. I either fix it and pay $10, or just pay the fine which is $106. I'm paying the $106 bucks, no way I'm putting the plate on the front, kills the look. I just have to take it easy for 90 days now which is a hard thing to do in this car (IX MR). Cops are pretty bored where I live and I just happened to get pulled over by the wrong one.

The problem is that these cars look like they're going 100 mph even when sitting still, and cops pretty much assume you're up to no good if you drive one. So if the fat grumpy one that only had 4 donuts for breakfast pulls you over, get your $106 bucks ready.......

in case anyone needs it, I went to home depot and found some bolts that fit perfectly for the holes in the bumper. For both the horizontal and vertical one.

Hex bolt-Hex head 6mm - 1 0 X30mm.

Exactly whats written on the package

Hope it helps someone
