how can i tell if i have a bad fuel pump

I have a warlbo 255, and yesterday after havign dinner, at a resturant my car woudlnt' start up anymore.. everythign seems fine but the rpm doesnt' stay up.. and the car dies off after the intial start up.. the only way i can keep the engine alive is to step on the gas and keep the rpm up.. but if not the rpm drops to 0 and my engine dies.. I check the vaccum and i don't think that is it.. but i kept hearing this loud whirling whining sound i never heard before .. and thats from behind my seat which is the fuel pump.. so is it time to change fuel pumps? i had it for 3 years

Walboros are noisy. You will hear it regardless. Someone told me just to be on the safe side you should change your walboro every 2 years. Ive heard they have a tendancy of crapping out after that.
