I have a quick Cam question. Now I know that Cams are probably the best bang for my buck. I have recently done a few mods to my car, and in December I will be getting a tune. But I was curious.... If I do cams is it going to ruin my drive-ability at all? My Evo has 76k miles and is my daily driver. I dont want to lose any reliability or create problems. I would be going small like a 264, but stock spring and retainers.
for obvious reason you wouldn't want to go out and rip on the car...I'd turn the boost down and putt around until you get tuned
reflash??
how would you know if a evo has been reflashed?
besides driving the car and seeing if it idles wrong or feels off.
is there a physical way of seeing it?
without driving the car?
im guessin its just an ecu tune, so pulling the ecu and seeing if its chipped?
not sure.
im a honda kid going awd.
Thank you.
srry noob question.

You don't pull the Ecu to "chip" it, its not like the old ROM days where you had to physically pull it out of the car. The Ecu can be tapped into with a cable and software changing the program right there. The best way to tell is to download the rom loaded into the ecu and compare it with a known stock one. There should be many obvious points which where changed.
Thanks for this thread it was VERY helpful!
SO I owned a 03 WRX with some simple mods on it, TBE, catless UP, Cobb AP tune, and Sway Bars.
I just got the 05 Evo 8 and I'm thinking of going just about the same path as I did with my WRX. The evo I got already has a CBE (HKS I believe) and I was going to go for a Cobb Downpipe and a Cobb AP (AP first before downpipe). Is this a pretty basic/good mod in terms of power gains? I know the Evo gains a lot more HP from mods than a Subaru.
Also, I was gonna add a rear Sway bar, will it significantly reduce body roll?

Traitor! Lol..I was the one on the i-club forums telling you to buy a evo. I'm buying one soon as well. Btw I was the guy who lives in discovery bay you came by with ryan. Have fun!

It is doubtful you will feel anything. You can see if your 2-step is raised up. If it is, then that's a red flag saying the ECU has been touched. Then again, just because it is at stock, doesn't mean it isn't tuned either. My 2-step was stock, but my ECU was flashed. Get a Tactrix cable and pull your maps and compare them with stock maps. That's the only way to truly know.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Stationary rev limiter. We call it a 2 step because there are 2 rev limiters - the 5k (or adjusted 1st gear one) and the redline (also adjustable).
We use it to launch at the drag way or AX events. It builds up boost when stopped and get the car moving more effectively for those situations.
