is the fuel pump really necessary at that stage? is the stock fuel pump causing lean a/f's with just basic mods?

agreed, stuff like ic, fuel pump, injectors, fuel rails are cheap insurance.

take a look at this: http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm ... i was hoping to find something similar for the evo. no offence intended, but while we all understand that the fuel pump is cheap insurance, the money will be better spent if we get a good sense of when the fuel system is getting uncomfortably lean and upgrade it then. i'd rather put money towards making the car go faster before then.

also, is this to say that the collective experience has been that the fuel pump is the first fuel component that reaches its limits when mod'ing the car? ie. injectors, fuel rails etc can take higher power levels before causing the a/f lean out?

fuel rails are good until 600~ whp

fuel pumps max out low-mid 300~

injectors really depend on octane levels but usually once you get upwards of 350-375 whp they'll become necessary (meth injection makes this not always true)

thats the info i'm looking for, thanks! i am surprised that the fuel pump max out so early in comparison to the other components!

are there any other components which have to be upgraded once a certain power level is achieved? i'm just raising fuel 'cos its a common item for turbo cars. how about ignition, tranny, clutch, CV joints etc?

ignition becomes a possible issue about 500~ whp

tranny as long as you don't launch poorly should hold up pretty well

clutch depends on your driving style and mods

Hey would it be possible to get the first post updated with "samples" or products for each section. Doesn't have to be recommendations, but at least samples. If it's for dummies like myself after all a picture is worth a thousand words...

I have used this guide for a few upgrades and it's definitely helping me learn more, but one of the things I've noticed is that there are a lot of companies out there that sale the "part" or the "kit" and a lot of times it's fluff. So knowing just what you need for each upgrade would be very helpful.

Anyway, thanks VERY MUCH for the guide.

Right now I'm looking for a way to make shifting smoother, and you mentioned "Under Hood Shifter Bushing" is that the same thing as a "short throw shifter" ?

I won't list products due to the fact no matter what I say I'll end up being accused of being biased

evom has plenty of vendors to choose from and reviews for almost every product imaginable

underhood shifter bushing are bushings and are under the hood...a short throw shifter is the actual shifter in the car

I have personally used the buschur ones and can vouch for them...linked below

hi, again. I bought a ported oem exhaust manifold and when I was about to install it, the shop told me it has no EGR and asked me if I want to proceed with the new manifold. Question is what is the advantage of not having EGR? My mod is basics: tbe, intake, fuelpump and ecutek flash. drives evo IX. Thanks.

I think you mean intake manifold

and egr is an emission related item

an exhaust manifold like the one pictures above has nothing to do with an egr

I can only assume they mean egt...as in exhaust gas temperature...which is a probe that feeds a gauge to monitor exhaust temps
