Crash beams - remove or keep
^ good point. Never thought about it that way. I really like your logic on this one.
Those sneaky bastards, but can't they just chose to not cover it because they can just flat out blame the safety was compromised. And you end up actually paying the full amount aka $800 in your example. There might be a few insurance companies that will honor it, but i doubt all of them are this generous. The thing is, this unwritten law is not made universal or else everyone will not be afraid to have them off.
I agree that the crash beam will save them money, but if we don't have it on, it might costs us more money because we are sorta playing by their rules so to speak.
Next question to ask is: which companies still honor claims in accident's when beams are removed? And which doesn't? lol. Once answered, act accordingly.

That goes for anyone else who doesn't believe their insurance company cares, or will check for a beam in catastrophic accidents. The higher the claim, the more they snoop.
But I will warn you all...
Many insurance companies log every question you have like this. It all ends up on your CLUE report. Yes, even if you're just asking a question. Then in the future when you have another claim, they probably will check for a crash beam.

it's all been said before. look here, start on page 6

The low speed protection is a very funny thing i would say. They say : you will "save" money so its for you , but really the insurance company's saving money, since you probably have deductable.
It is very simple why, when the low speed impact occure the crash beam defenietly help.
So when you don't have it, probably you will always have a higher damage. So the damage is lets say $1200. Now you will pay/deductable/ $500 then $700 what they will pay.
But when when you have the crash beam and the damage is less, you still got to pay $500 /deductable /, and the the damage is $800, so the insurance company pays $300...
So the crash beam is really for who?

well mr. jeff jeske, you will remember when my girlfriend hit my car and scraped the paint off my bumper and cracked the headlight, we took the bumper off and there it is, a bent 10mph bar. Without that crash bar it would have been likely that my intercooler piping would of been bent, That "crash" happened at amost 3mph.... At low speed impacts it works nicely but anything after 10-15 mph i would think it would be useless.

I just put a JDM bumper on my car and I modified my rear crash bar to go on under it. Took a little cutting and welding but in the end I feel better knowing it's there especially since I carry my 5 year old around in my Evo.

Crash Beams
Those beams serve no purpose except for the 5mph bumper test. This is all a result of the insurance companies forcing our government to pass this requirement on car manufacturers. YOU do not see these beams on European or Japanese models.
The idiot who said the front crash beam plays a role in deploying the air bags has no freaking clue what he is talking about.
