Intercooler are Intercooler Right?

Ok, I saw one thread about exhaust earlier. I mean, it's all 3" and does not really matter about the brand name and all. Wouldn't that go along with Intercooler as well? I mean, the bigger IC you have, the better? There are some cheap IC on eBay that doesn't have the name HKS or Blitz but shouldn't they all work the same?

It'll be better than stock for sure but not as good as name brand ones that have real R and D behind their products like AMS,Bushur,Nisei,ETS. Also some of the ebay ones don't have the top bracket as well.

Just curious... I won't be needing one until I get some more upgrades. If I do get one on eBay, I'll make sure it has the bracket on the top.

There are different sizes of cores and end tanks. Just find an intercooler that will be right for the horse power you want.

ICS differ ..i am not certain on the capacity of the stock one..but putting an overly large IC on ur car will only result in boost lag. make sure u make a wise choice when selecting!

I vote for the 3.5 ETS. Buschur did a test on the ams copy and the larger ebay one. Smaller one did better than he thought but it heat soaked fast. As you can imagine, the larger one did fairly better but no where near his race I/C. Granted, it costs a helluva lot more...

I'm still waiting on a test between the stock one and the ebay one.

here is a a quick read on intercooler core construction & what separates a good I/C from a bad one

http://www.are.com.au/techtalk/intecoolersMR.htm

as you can see, there is more involved here than "bigger is better"

I don't think many people will truely understand that

Maybe a good analogy would be "Saying every intercooler is the same is like saying every beer is the same". Or perhaps people just lack tase

They might look the same but no one mentioned anything about the core being used. That is what makes the difference from an AMS and an Ebay cooler. I have used the ebay and it was back on ebay the following day. Don't waste your money and do it right the first time. Exhaust can not be compared to an intercooler.

All intercoolers are not created equal, you have to take into account pressure drop, cooling efficiency, how many vanes you have, design, etc.
