Radar\Laser Jammer
V1
I have the V1. It has saved me TOO many times to count. The best thing about it is that you can program it. The X-band that senses all those automatic doors can be turned off, which is what i did. And as for sensitivity, the V1 is by far the BEST i have used. From Cobra to Escort. The V1 picks up signal through hills im traveling over, dont know how but it does, so i know if i need to slow down doing some cross country driving. It is a little price high, but craigslist is awesome. And, Valentine 1 will actually upgrade the radar detector when they come out with something new/ technology upgrades.
I think that the only benifit I've seen from V1 is that they do upgrade your existing unit....for a price. But it's cheaper than buying a new detector.
The X50 also lets you turn off each band individually. And around my area no one uses X band, not even the door openers, they are all K band around here and there's no way to filter them out. Just gotta deal with it... I love the mute button on my X50's power plug. Along with what I said about using common sense, I'm aware that non of the jurisdictions around my area have any of the more advanced KA guns or LIDAR...so I have no need to upgrade to anything.
Any detector worth it's price can pick up some signals in hills. Radar reflects off of multiple objects to eventually reach your detector. It's a radio signal and will bounce around just like FM radio reception in the mountains.

Laser jammers are currently illegal in nine states.

if you truely want an actual 100% effective way of jamming radar (not laser) listen up
Per my College physics proffessor
Hook up speakers that face the front of the car (he was vague im assuming just possible on the front dash and place tin foil over the front of the speakers....this is legal and jams the frequency of the radar.

Really so your questioning a phd (from MIT) in physics at a major university who flat out said "it interferes with the frequency of the radar" and will cause it to not work properly....I mean i guess it is hear say because all I have is a physics proffesors word, why dont you try it and tell us if you want more proof.
I personally would trust the man.
He was referring to destructive interference of waves that is caused by the speaker tin foil set up
But i guess you must know more than him so why dont you tell us how or why it doesnt work.
As for it doesnt "Jam" anything i guess that really depends on your definition of Jam....But before you disregard it why not do some research yourself.

So you believe everything you hear? David Koresh told hundreds of people he was the 2nd coming of Christ and many idiots believed him. Why do we have to do the research on something that was said 2nd hand? Instead of just regurgitating what some professor said why don't you find out the specifics and reasoning to his statement before you just spout out what someone told you.
Good try with the "he's a so-and-so" to get your point across. That's just lazy research there.

Beat the Radar Gun
This is the first myth entirely tested by the Build Team.
It is possible to legally beat the police speed radar and/or lidar by…
…jingling a set of keys. Busted The keys had no effect at all.
…dangling a disco ball from the rear-view mirror. Busted The disco ball had no effect at all. It is also illegal (in California, where the show is filmed) to have anything large and obstructive hanging off the rear-view mirror.
…dangling CDs from the rear-view mirror. Busted The CDs had no effect at all, and are also illegal in California.
…covering the hubcaps in tin foil. Busted The tin foil did not have any noticeable effect.
…covering the entire car in tin foil. Busted The tin foil acted as a large reflector and actually enhanced the detection ability of the radar .
…jamming the lidar by lining the front license plate with light-emitting diodes (LEDs) Busted The LEDs were not strong enough to interfere with the lidar.
…jamming the lidar by covering the entire car with LEDs. Not tested While the idea did come up in the brainstorming phase it was too impractical to test on the full-scale car.
…jamming the radar by bouncing microwaves at it. Busted Kari's magnetron failed to jam the police radar.
…shooting scraps of tin foil behind the car as chaff. Busted There were too many rogue variables to get the system to work properly, particularly wind. The car was still detectable and the chaff did nothing to disrupt the radar. This solution would also likely result in a much stiffer penalty for littering.
…spinning a wheel of mirrors on top of the car slower than the actual speed of the car. Partly Busted Tory's device actually tricked the radar into displaying the car as going one or two miles per hour slower, but not enough to help. The device itself was highly impractical. Unlike the rear-view mirror attachments, the roof mounted device was actually not illegal in California.
…painting the car matte-black to absorb the radar and light beams. Busted The all black paint did nothing to reduce the detectability of the car.
…painting the car with special radar absorbing paint, like a stealth aircraft. Not tested/Not Practical The special paint is loaded with iron and goes on like frosting. It was so heavy that the toy car used in the preliminary tests could barely move. It was never properly tested on the full scale car, because it would be more expensive than just paying off any speeding tickets.

actually I saw that episode they never tested tin foil on speakers. Tin foil is a myth by itself. Also if you dont believe MIT I can post his bio from his site. I have no reason not to believe him he isn't insane and gains nothing from lying.
If you want the exact reason I can go in after class although I didnt know how many physics majors where on the board I figured my brief explenation would suffice.

OK...so V1 , Escort , Bel, Cobra, I dont care what the recommendation is
I do have a question though about how long your radar detectors have lasted. I have heard about them failing after a year to 2 years worth (V1, 8500 X50, STI) and was wondering what peoples experience was with that???

First thing you should learn in college - your professors are not experts in their field, whether it be MIT or not. (there are a few exceptions)
However if he has done real world tests to prove this than I would be happy to agree with the tin foil speaker scenario but until then, its just theory.
