Bad Cam Sensor

If your cam sensor goes bad will it cause your car not to run?

Bad cam sensor

Two weeks ago I replaced my cams, could that somehow cause the sensor to go out?

What he said. A lot of cars do start but have bad driveability. Make sure your cam sensor has a good wave pattern.

I have a brand new OEM sensor if you need one. Good luck with your car.

He did not do the install, a local performance shop did. Another problem DesertEagle was having was a sever oil leak from the cam seals by the rear corner of the valve cover. Could the oil leak in that area cause his cam sensor to go bad? The car has less then 18k miles on it.

If the cam sensor housing is filled with oil the sensor may not function correctly (seen it happen once). The sensor may be dirty or have metal shavings stuck to it. Or it coulf just be bad. It sounds like a shotty install that was done without new cam seals. Take it back and make them do it right.

As siad above. Pull the 3 screws off of the cover and look and see if th round metal peice is tight. MAke sure its not full of oil either.

Sorry to bring back an old thread. So the fix to the CAS housing filling up with oil is to take off the housing and reinstall it using less sealant (with the valvecover and bearing #6 off)? I just installed some cams and I'm having idle/drivability issues. When I checked the CAS trigger by taking off the 3 bolts, a ton of oil came out.

What idle/drivability problems did you guys experience with the CAS housing full of oil? Will it cause the car to run lean? Mine was running 20-ish AFR and was almost impossible to drive.

Thanks in advance.

lol funny you bring this back my car wont turn over. It just cranks then puffs a few times then dies then won't start at all. I was wondering if the cam sensor could be the issue.

I am tracing an oil leak around the exhaust cam sensor and removed the sensor and ground to clean up the leak. I do see that the housing is filled with oil looking from the removed hole of the sensor.

Appreciate advise on whether the inside of the housing is supposed to be filled with oil? Sightly lubricated? Or bone dry?
