Help electical problem

Ok here is what is happening. I was taking my car to the inspection station and all my clusters went out along with the radio and clock. The car started to stall. Then the car went to full power. About a minute later all the clusters went off again and the car would not go anywhere. I had to pull off to the shoulder and ride the clutch for about 3 blocks to get to the garage. When I got there the car died and did not have power. I smelled like the wires were melting. I noticed that on the postive battery terminal the fuse had melted. After the car sat for about 45 minutes and it had full power again, but the car would barely start. HELP....... NO MODS EVER ON THE CAR....

You have a mini battery right?

If your battery sits like mine does which was pretty damn close to that aluminum bracket where the positive lead hangs over I'd check for shorting there. If its hitting adjust the connection point so it wont happen and make sure the battery is tied down really well..

While your at it double check that alternator and make sure you didn't fry it. Just turn the car on and see with a volt meter if you get to the desired 14 volts.

My negative terminal clamp developed a crack in it, which loosened it, then it arced further weakening the clamp; and it had similar symptoms (mine just wouldn't start on some days). I replaced the clamp and it is fine now. Think it could be that?
