Most if not all 4-point harnesses will work without a harness bar, just make sure you know how to correctly install it/them before using it.

Because an incorrect installation cant be dangerous.

Sounds like his harnesses aren't mounted in the proper geometry.

I have some brand new Sparco harnesses for sale that I never used for 200. I have a pair of them. They are red and the long version.

Schroth harness's are the best you can buy without going with the harness bar.

+1 I have driven lots of track days and autocross.

Best bang for the buck I ever spent on my car.

Umm, I remember reading somewhere, just recently, that the Takata belt ratings last twice as long as others. I don't know if it was SFI or what rating.

...and Evoz is correct about the installation. There was a guy in a mini that was killed because of the improper set up of the harness. If it were me I'd look into at least a 5 point.

Don't wear harnesses without a roll cage/roll hoop. If your car flips over, your body is held upright, and your neck pays the price if your roof caves in. Factory 3 point harnesses let your body slide towards the middle of the car in that type of accident.

Want more info...search around the motorsports forum.

Good point ^ not only that but if you dont properly mount the harness and you anchor it to the floor or to the seat bolts behind you when you get into an accident the geometry is wrong as mentioned before. Instead of doing what it is supposed to do keep you from moving forard or out of your seat it will actually pull your sholders down compressing your spine thus crushing your vertebrae.

If your into that kind of thing then go for it but IMO it sounds like your going for the " look at me I have racing harnesses" then your doing it all wrong.

Save your $ and get the harness bar or the ebay one which is nice and be done with it and save your back and everyone elses insurance rates!
