Evo8 RINGER?

Ok I have been trying to put two and two together here.

Ok here is the thing Stock Evo is supposed to have a rev-limeter around 7400 rpms, mine is 7780 (datalog proven). Next is my clutch feels beastly, it chaters alot when cold like my Clutch Masters used to do on my old car, plus I have never once smelled any burning coming from it or noticed any slippage. I am now making a bit over 300whp since I turned up the boost and have no complaints with it. Last thing is stock evo is supposed to have a top speed gov. of 155. Mine doesn't I didn't believe it the first time my speedometer hit 162 and the dataloger confirmed it so I went home and picked up my brothers handheld GPS. Which is the most accurate way to measure any type of distance and speed and sure enough 7250 in fith gear gave me 165mph. So I am asking if anyone else has had anything like this happen?

I always thought the Evo never had a governor.

I have done 162 as well... Laser Radar cert... And I believe my rev limiter is also higher around closer to 8000.. Never stared at it though.. I just know it was in the higher 7000's... Clutch does stink after a good hard launch... I gotta get that restrictor out of my clutch for better grab...

Lots of imports have governors. For example, the GST eclipse has it at 140.

Almost all cars are limited at <160. My car also seems to rev past 7400 before fuel cut. My question for the author of this post is what build date is your car.

The speed governor in the Evo is the RPM limiter. The Evo will redline in 5th gear.

If you can get more RPM out of your car, you can get more MPH on the top end.

The Eclipses and Talons weren't imports; they were built in Illinois.

my car does not shut off until somewhere damn close to 8000rpm as well.....so that seems pretty consistant.

I have only hit 140mph so I cannot help on the speed thing....but... it takes forever from the time you shift into 5th at 110mph until you finally would reach 160... i'll bet that would take 2+ miles!

The magazines may have "only" hit 157 due to it being a track...this guy may have been on a slight decline or had a nice tailwind.... too many variables!!!

The GS-T has a governor, but the GSX does not - 2G's anyway.
