spooling sound in air vent

Just like it says; I took the evo out today for the first time in a few days and as it's spooling I hear a strange "wooshing" sound from the far right passenger air vent. I shut the radio off and it's definitely coming from there. I then notice the Defi boost gauge is not showing any reading (it's staying at 0) I then listen out the window and the bov (evo IX bov) sounds normal during boost and blow-off. There did seem to be a slight performance decrease but I thought at first it may have been from being a humid / hot day out. Could it be a really bad leak? I'm not even sure what hoses I should check since everything looks normal to my un-trained eye.

Any ideas what it could be that I'm:
1. Hearing spool up in the air vent
2. boost gauge not working (never had a problem)

btw I've searched and haven't found anything about hearing boost in an airvent.

Thanks in advance, rob

check the boost line.is there vaccuum?.meaning does the boost gauge so that theres vaccuum?if not, then it might definitly be that hose.

Definately sounds like your boost gauge line came undone, for both problems to happen at the same time

thanks for the quick replies....it didn't show any vaccuum, and if that is all that happened; out of curiosity why would I hear it near the passenger vent? It was pretty weird to hear.

One more question. I've looked at all the hoses I could spot in the engine bay and didn't see anything wrong, could it have come undone somewhere behind the dash (i put in a new stereo a couple of weeks ago and maybe it came loose then) . I bought the car with the gauge installed so I'm not sure how it's routed. How are most boost gauge lines routed?

theres a posibility..the reason you here it by the passanger side is because thats where the grommet everyone uses is at.is it an electrical or mechanical gauge?

the grommet is located behind the passenger-side strut tower.its hard to see but its there.

take your glove box out.
behind it, to the right, there should be a hole going through the firewall into your engine compartment.
that's the hole everyone uses for vacuum hose for the boost gauge.

thanks for leading me in the right direction! It was the boost gauge hose that had been cut in the firewall since no grommet had been used. Repaired the hose and everything is back to normal!

just as a little update:

I fixed the gauge hose that was coming through the firewall and everything was great....and two days later I hear it again. I'm thinking; no prob the patch tube I used must have come loose.......just then a mouse runs out from under the glovebox and starts running all around the car (i'm driving to work).

Long story short, the mouse wanted through that grommet hole pretty bad and had chewed through it both times. Lucky for me I knew right where he was getting in, and unlucky for him I've already caught him!

the end and no mice families in my car over winter (it sits in the garage nov-mar)
