The funny thing. Not only does Mitsu watch the races but I'm pretty sure consumers do as well. I've been thinking of putting Subaru badges on my car. Mitsu's getting a lot of free advertising from me and I think it needs to stop.
Hey guys,
I just read the last couple of pages in regards to Dealership [ie: licensee] Warranty claims.
I have a buddy who is a ASE cerified tech at Mitsubishi. Over the past 15 years that he has been a tech there he has said WITHOUT A DOUBT that a great percentage of cars
1G/2g/VR4/3000GT/EVO8 that come through his shop for warranty work are in fact cars that have been driven hard.
Warranty denial claims DO vary from Dealership to Dealership.
On my old 2G FWD Turbo, The first motor crankwalked itself.
When the dealership performed the post mortem, they advised me that even though the car had an aftermarket exhaust on it, the EXHAUST did not lend to the crank bearing failure.
Also, in regards to failing fifth gears, YES a qualified mechanic can tell if the fifth gear failed from a manufacturer defect OR if it was driver error.
Even though I work at a aftermarket retail shop, YOU the owner have to understand what you are getting yourself into when purchasing a high performance car, and associated aftermarket parts
I can't count the number of guys/gals that have purchased parts and have called to complain of parts breakage......
When asked what led up to the breakage. A LARGE percentage of those were because of driver error!
If you race it, AND BREAK it, you ALONE are responsible for what happens. Regardless if a local Dealership is using questionable practices to find out if you race the car, it's still up to YOU to protect YOURSELF from being CAUGHT racing.
Gentlemen, racing is racing. It is the Manufacturers responsibility to guarantee workmanship ONLY if a part fails under normal wear and tear.
However I wish all of you the very best of luck when taking your cars into have servicing performed on them. If your claim flys under the radar of big brother, then god bless you.
HOWEVER. Simply being PARKED at a drag strip is NOT an admission to guilt.
Racing your car IS.
Think before you leap fellas.

He also had a copy of this thread thath the district rep sent him. So the voice is being HEARD!

Yep, I'm yet another one of those DSM guys, but this thread caught my interest in particular.
Lets be honest, Mitsu has LONG been known for giving their customers the shaft. Its been talked about for years. It took a massive group effort to get the transfer case recall on the DSMs through the NHTSA, and that was a MAJOR safety issue.
Mitsu still denies that the crankwalk issue on the 7-bolt block was ever a manufacturing defect, regardless of the data shown, and class action suits have been met with nothing.
I love DSMs, despite the issues they have, and the Evo is an incredible car that I will likely own before too long, but don't kid yourself about support. Read the history of the vendor. We called Mitsu SATAN for a reason, and it wasn't an acronym.
Buy an Evo if you want a solid platform to go fast and have fun in, but don't expect warranty replacement on things like clutches. The dealer can almost always prove misuse if they want to.

Todd is persona non-grata, ClubDSM is splintered into a bunch of feuding factions, and the message board is now king over the old talon-digest.
Nothing is forever I guess, although I miss the sense of community.

A confirmation of re-subscription.....
Damn it.
And I haven't been on DSMTalk in forever. Is that still around?
I just need to do some searching around or maybe jump on MIrc and see who I can find.

They are racing the car in that friggin video! Now, that is sales and service, right? Why would they advertise to their own salesmen?
