OK, so a Mitsu car isn't a to buy. Let us know what you buy. Treat it like you've treated your EVO (mod it, race it, drop clutches, etc.), and let everyone know about your service/warranty issues. If they treat you different than Mitsu has/would, then I'll trade my EVO and get what you got

Go ahead and forget the idea that Mitsubishi as a corporation sends employees out to dragstrips to look for their cars in an attempt to void warranties. It just simply "Does not happen". However, people at the dealerships have lifes after the dealership is closed. These people love cars just like everyone else. Service managers, Mechanics, service writers, sales manager, general managers, etc. I have seen people from dealerships there at the dragstrips when I have gone. I raced my Supra one time and saw the Service Manager and a Mechanic from my Nissan dealer there. It happens quite frequently.
These people can take pictures for various reasons. For the most part they are not taken to void warranties, but for other reasons. For that matter, the district rep could live near the dragstrip in question and could be a car guy too. He just may have happen to see the car there.
There is an explanation for this and it is not the Mitsubishi corporate is spying on us. My $.02 !!

Yes, it is NOT Mitsubishi Corp. that is watching. It is simply a particular dealer in your area. SOME dealers actually SUPPORT and encourage track racing. When I bought my Evo I was given info by the dealer for autox events and was told by service manager, etc. that mods were ok.
There are good dealers and bad dealers. There are good and bad regional reps. The Evo is marketed toward racing. If a dealer told me they weren't going to cover something but couldn't prove and give a logical explanation that it was a direct result of a mod or racing they would be talking to my attorney I did it before with Chrysler Corp. when they tried to deny a warranty claim to replace the motor in my Durango and I'd do it again if I have to. They ended up covering everything.
Some regional reps have to be pressed a little bit

Alot of you guys are not thinking.
First... Get a restraining order

second...I am assuming that you are a private (non public) figure. In that case it is illegal to take your picture withour your permission. I would have both civil and criminal charges filed.

LOL, People get a life. Good old Budiness is back to the same old ****. if you are going to believe anything someone says about a car on the net you need to wake up. I track my car all the time and if you think mitsu is watching you, you need to goto the DR asap because you have other problems. People think about it. Do you think sears watches everyone to make sure they are using there tools correctly? What about computers? Think IBM is looking in your window to make sure you shutdown windows correctly so you don't have to call and get free support? Get a life. again UNREAL 2x

wow, i guess i can sue red bull becuase i sure as hell havent sprouted wings yet...must be false advertising because as a person im too stupid to know the difference......

Alas, RedBull really does "give you wings" in the sense they mean, whereas we ABSOLUTELY CANNOT "go forth and modify" our Evos in ANY way, according to most dealers.

Ok...I just want to touch on a couple of things...

Advertising: a way to make someone want to purchase your product!

Yes they show the evo being raced and abused. And yes you can race and abuse your evo....BUT the ads do not say that your can do these things and still be covered under warranty. So no legal action can be taken against the advertising. Think about it this way... Beer ads show people drinking, partying and DRIVING around with beautiful ladies all the time. This does not mean that you won't get in trouble for DRIVING while drunk...and it doesn't mean that your going to get a beautiful ladies by drinking their beer.

FYI also... I own a Graphics company, (NuWave Graphics) and our main focus is Logo design and advertising... So I know a bit about this...

Also...warranty states that racing or modifying your car in any way voids your warranty. It's in black and white. Now they no longer have to prove that it was the race that messed it up. They just have to prove that you raced... period! because the second you got on the track your warranty was voided...so now you can't get any work done that happened after the fact. Its already voided! This is all in the owners manual... (someone stated, who reads this things before hand?) Well you all should... Every product you buy...not just cars... comes with one. And its this document that protects the manufacture against lawsuits. Before you go and use it don't you think you should know...its limits and your rights? And normaly somewhere on the first couple of pages it will state, "read owners manual before operation!"...

Just remember that Mitsu is a large corp. and has paid a lot of lawyers to look out for them... I'm not saying that somepeople don't have legit claims...but I'm willing to bet they will be against the dealership and not Mitsu corp.

1)A restraining order to what? keep Mitsubishi 500 ft from you?
2)It is not illegal to take anyones picture. It's illegal to use a picture of someone without a signed release for commercial purposes. Believe me, it's my business in the stock photography world.

That's precisely the point. You should have asked to see it before hand and you definitely should have read it when you brought the car home. Then you would knw not to take your car in the first place. No one drives from the dealer to the track because then you have not properly broken in your car (like the video and dealership told you to).

in ALL of those ads were evos are raced and abused, do they show a single one going into a dealership to be repaired.

"ya, hey joe, i was traversing up pikes peak, and i was doin about a 100 and i slipped off the side of the road, im sure im under my 36k B-T-B warranty right?"

so the understanding is that you can race all day eeryday, but DONT EXPECT WARRANTY WORK..

You break your car and EXPECT the dealer to fix it? i'd tell you to go F off too..

Its awful, but the district Subaru rep for warranty claims is part owner of the local 1/8th mile track. They fried a couple of WRX owners that way here. People would pull their tags and put a taped business card over their VIN numbers before going to race. I never ran at that track because of that reason.

With this car, I still have no real urge to drag race it, because of the number of clutch disc issues people are having.

All that aside, screw them. There is no way drag racing your car could kill your 5th gear synchronizer. This car should be able to take quite a bit of punishment. You don't get hardware like this car has to drive it around like an Outlander. I really hope tranny problems don't pop up, but coming from a WRX, this tranny is a happy dream come true to me.

If you sizzle your clutch at the dragstrip from a 7000rpm sidestep, IMO it IS your fault. If you manifest a 5th gear grind that you had nothing to do with and they try to pin iton drag racing, fight it to the end. Fourth gear is capable of 113mph at stock indicated redline. Since you were not even trapping triple digits, there is no way drag racing the car caused this. Any mechanic worth his salt knows that.

Don't think that they have plants at the dragstrips. Its not a conspiracy theory. Some narc just happened to be there the same time you were and ratted you out like a punk. Maybe he works at the track! Just be careful, but I think it you have a really strong logical case in the fact that its your 5th gear synchro.

You make several good points.
However, per the Magnuson-Moss act, a manufacturer still must prove that abuse caused the problem since the burden of proof is on them (photos are not sufficient).

The dealer and manufcturer are REQUIRED by law to let you read the warranty before purchase.

people....read your documents...the manuals everything related to your car...

If you race... you have no case! (everyone chant along with me, if you race, you have no case!)
I know it sucks... But if they have proof that you raced your car at the track... your warranty is VOID...not just part of it...YOUR ENTIRE WARRANTY IS VOID.
