Beef it up and make it last and you don't have to worry about warranty or send spies to tracks.
Amen...I dont know about you guys but I would have gladly paid another 3k for the car if they would stand behind their work and let us use our cars for what they are built.

That does not matter. The fact is I would NOT have bough an EVO to drive back and forth from work--I would have bought a G35. I bought the EVO to race it and had I known prior to purchase that I could not race it, I would not have bought it.

Come on people.... We all now...you can't race your car on the track...and then ask for warranty work.... I know it suchs but lets be honest... we all hope that the dealership will fix it... but then aren't we just screwing them over? Let's not blame them for not letting us take it to them....

And it does matter in court... You had access to the warranty paper work before you went to the track......

I suggest you take and trade in your evo and get a G35...and then take it to the track.... and then go claim work on warranty... maybe they won't catch you....

mitsu is trying to avoid a recall on evos and the 5th gear synchro issue IMO .. they are notorious for avoiding recalls and hiding as much as possible to do so. Recall means a handful of executives in asia get canned .. THOSE MEN are probably pushing this ...

With the whining about worn out clutches I am not surprised that Mitsu is teying to protect themselves on the warranty side. However, it certainly doesn't encourage one to buy their product if one is interested in motorsport.

There's are some solutions. Race under a pseudonym - that's in good racing and rally tradition. Race without plates or someone else's plates. Tape over the VIN number while at the track. Etc, etc.

Protect yourself.

A recall is issued due to customer complaints OR NHTSA orders.
The EVO is new, and customer complaints are probably being compiled now.
"Notorious for avoiding recalls"... useless and non-constructive comment. In Japan, has been recalling cars for issues affecting less than 100 vehicles...

Nobody here disputes that if YOU broke it, warranty does not apply. If YOU roll off the shoulder at Pike's Peak - it is not a warranty claim to begin with, hence the irrelevance of your rant.

What we are talking about here are items that break during activities such as occasional track/auto-x. Items that OTHER respectable and reputable manufacturers DO cover.

BTW, the only way I'd hold your hand if you were dangling off the 30th floor balcony... Nah, I wouldn't
so are you a little kid, you gotta get that grammatical error in your quote? jesus, talk about growing up. you show proof one other major manufacturer who will not negate a claim for warranty work based on how the vehice was known to be driven.

subaru gives out a free SCCA membership with the purchase of a WRX but if you use it, they use that against you in warranty claims!

The really lame thing about subaru warranty is that some dealers are mod friendly and will fix just about anything. Others will deny a claim about a broken cd player if you have aftermarket wheels. Its all a tossup as to what dealership you can take your car to...

If you are worried about them "checking out" your car at the track, make sure you cover your VIN number with a business card (upside down) along with taking the plate off.

I don't think that's so lame at all. I'll give my business to a dealer that treats me fairly anyday. It's going to sway may decision between Mitsu and Subaru as well - I am waiting 'til both are available in Canada.

Mitusbishi of America has DENIED my Federally Mandated Safety Recall for my Leaking TC. I had a local Service Rep come to our board, 3si.org, and herass me...Stating he found many threads about me going to the track, about my recent dyno day netting 401 AWHP...They stated that having mods VOIDS the "warranty" which is a hoot since it is not a WARRANTY but a federal safety recall.

It then went to Mitsubishi of America, after a week they call me and tell me that "Since I continued to drive the car with mods on it, they are not covering the warranty" I asked what warranty, it's a FEDERAL RECALL...He stated "Our engineers have looked over your case and have made our final decision, your mods voide the warranty" I asked him How mods made my rubber seals leak like everyone eles'e that caused the recall...He stated "Thier decision was final"

Of course if my TC locks up due to thier negligence...Lawsuits are going to occur.

I Currently have a case with the National Traffic and Safety Administration whom take care of Recall and the manufacturers that refuse to cover them.

Mitsubishi HAS in the past come onto to 3si.org...Hell, they made a list of memebers that had Track threads and Racing threads to try to deny Recall and Warranty issues...

Mitsubishi sux ***** and I won't buy another one...

You think Dodge is watching the track for STR4 Neons? To Void thier warranty? I tend to think not, I bet they would love nothing more than to see the neon at the track kicking import ***...Bet ya GM is not wasting money sending reps to tracks and to spend countless hours on the web boards to find Vettes that are being "Abused"

You know, Mitsu makes this Evo, "Rally Inspired" hypes it to hell and back and then if you go over 30mph they tell you to f off...You abused it....Mitsu can go to hell...What a bunch of corporate dingbats that really know how to PUSH thier customer base away...

1)It's in the manual, race your car and your warranty is void. It doesn't matter if Mitsu markets the car one way or not. Look at Subarus ads with the handbrake pulled flying around a corner. Subaru even gave free 1 year memberships to the SCCA with a WRX purchase. Guess what? Use your WRX at a SCCA sanctioned event, warranty voided.
2)Mitsu/Subaru/Everyone checks the boards. Don't EVER say you took your car to a track. Don't EVER post a time. They can subpoena your username and every post you've made.

Does Mitsu suck for spying, absolutely. But they didn't make you race.
Mistubishi is up to the same old tired tricks that every DSM owner had to live with. This is nothing new.

FWIW, I have autox'ed my subaru WRX for the past 2 seasons and have never been denied any warrentee claims even when my clutch was replaced for their infamous clutch shudder problem. (that was also my only warrentee claim too)
