Don't you realize what you're handing out is what they call a TEMPORARY manual. I have not heard news about the FINAL manual yet. There may be incorrect information in the Temp, such as torque specs, etc...If something happens to them or their car, they might come after you since you gave them the manual...never know, just watch your back...

I have heard about this through some friends who own a performance shop that Audi does this kind of thing as well. They will find out about big car meets or track days as secretly take down your VIN and ask you about your mods. You go in for a fix, they have it all in black and white. It seems like the big 3 do a better job of taking care of after the sale issues than other manufacturers.

So what if there watching us at the track? We all know the risk of driving on a track/auto-x. Fixing a warrantied part under normal driving condition is a legitimate claim. Asking Mitsu to fix a part for free, knowing you broke the part, is something different.

Dude, besides the fact you gave your name out in an earlier reply...they got your number already !

Personally, I have not tracked my car. But I have to say that the first place I would go to this is the Better Business Bureau. The onus, no matter what the reason for denial of warranty is, by law, on the warranter.

Post hoc ergo proptor hoc.

Because I was at the track doesn't mean I abused my car. There is no necessary implication that you abused your car. Many people go to the track and baby their car. The car may have been launched on the street much harder than it ever had at the track. Mitsubishi better be ready to deal with the windfall of their actions. The groundswell at this point does not bode well.

I don't own an Evo but really want/ed to (slash intentional). But there are a couple lessons to be learned from previous cars and enthusiast webboards before you.
1)It's in the manual, race your car and your warranty is void. It doesn't matter if Mitsu markets the car one way or not. Look at Subarus ads with the handbrake pulled flying around a corner. Subaru even gave free 1 year memberships to the SCCA with a WRX purchase. Guess what? Use your WRX at a SCCA sanctioned event, warranty voided.
2)Mitsu/Subaru/Everyone checks the boards. Don't EVER say you took your car to a track. Don't EVER post a time. They can subpoena your username and every post you've made.

Does Mitsu suck for spying, absolutely. But they didn't make you race.

For an EVO, the way it is marketed and sold, track/auto-x IS a normal driving condition. If does not want to stand behind their product when their customers use EVO as per their marketing campaign - then there is a strong case for misleading advertising. IMHO, of course...

This is really sad. I'd almost want to say this is a dealership practice and not a Mitsu corportate thing because I know of a few people who don't have these kinds of problems with their dealership. But the amount that do is alarming.

But I guess this doesn't surprise me. From Mitsu's denial of crankwalk on the 2nd gen DSMs, to other problems they've had with various models.

I can seriously say that they have lost a repeat customer in me as far as buying a new vehicle from them

Why is it that when the EVO came out, dealerships were marking up the prices way over list, and Mitsu never stepped in.
I was considering a new EVO next year if they brought the Active Yaw Control into next year's model. But after this development I guess Mitsu will be off my list next spring when I purchase another vehicle. I got the chance to drive a good friend of mine's WRX STi off the dealership lot and I had it for about a week. Very nice vehicle. I just may end up with an STi next spring instead of the EVO

IF Mitsu wanted to kill their sales and image on the import market, then they are doing an outstanding job.

It's also another reason I don't like buying brand new cars.

Lets take a poll - raise your hand if you saw the manual BEFORE you puchased your EVO. How about how many people EVER see manuals BEFORE they buy their cars - any car for that matter.

I do not remember seeing this statement anywhere in the ads, which is the source of fine print information for 99% for people making the buying decision. Please, correct me if I am wrong.

When I purchased my EVO, during the runthough of the documentaiton at the dealer - this VERY IMPORTANT warranty disclaimer, especially in view HOW EVO is sold to the masses, WAS NOT highlighted. Which brings up another poll - how many of EVO owners were explicitely notified of this proactively, rather then finding about this from either the manual or when denied repairs?

Voiding of warranty is becoming a comman trend with cars that are modded. VW does it on their 1.8t's, Subaru is doing it on their WRX's and Mitsubishi is doing it on their EVO's.

This is not to diss you or call you a liar StriktlyBidness. I support your need for getting legit warranty coverage.

However, people need to quit being so NAIVE.

First of all, realize that this sad thing happens among a number of manufacurers (including Subaru for example).
I don't agree with this practice at all and see it as counter-proudctive.
Also, most tracks keep info on the people racing. It's pretty easy to get info on who raced and when.
StriktlyBidness you gotta ask to see the photographs, get copies and post them here on the forum.
Now given the 100s of tracks in the US and the 4000 or so EVOs on the road, I highly doubt people are being paid by corporate just to go watch for the faint possibility of catching an EVO racing. Think about it.
So who would? Who knows the tracks and the owners in the local area? The dealership.
Now I know you said the district rep is the one giving you trouble, but guess where he gets his info from.
Either way, even if catches you at the track, they have to prove that the damage was a direct result of abuse and not a defect. Photos of you at the track prove NOTHING.

Finally, I'm really getting sick of people ragging on and making it seem like they are the only ones doing this, or voiding warranties, or having some mechanical issues, or having crappy dealers. GROW UP.

Once you've been around the block as much as I have in as many places as I have, you'll get to understand the business.

StriktlyBidness good luck with your endeavor.

I find it hard to believe that it is more cost effective for Mitsu to pay people to wander around in track events then it would be for them to actually pony up when their cars fail under warranty.

I bet that Mitsu corporate places calls with the local race tracks and asks to review the sign up lists for certain cars or names when there is a warranty issue at hand.

It's a sad and cowardly way for them to go about things....and I am amazed that tracks would even give out that info unless there is $$ in it for them.

SC~
