wondering
i was just wondering if anyone has had their front bumper off and checked the one in the front....it's probably ok since it looks like it was added after the dipping, painting process since it is black and not the same color as the car...just wondered if anyone had checked it just to be sure
i did it
ok...i took my rear bumper off this weekend and sanded the rust off and painted it with primer.....the rust was pretty bad....i have an 06 ix mr with only 2500 miles on it....i've only had it about a month....i guess every car has it's issues huh
i'd say if you have an evo...no matter what year...it's going to have rust under the rear bumper beam so it would be a good idea to repair it or 10 years or so down the road you'll be driving and your bumper might fall off

after seeing this i think they should start a forum called the evo's issues or something....i never would've known about this if i hadn't seen it on here...i mean how often do you take your rear bumper off....never unless you're changing it out for another one which most people don't do...i mean this is the first rear bumper i've ever taken off any car...anyways....so far there are 2 issues that i know about...1. the rust under the rear crash beam...2. the rubbing of the plastic intake on the frame under the hood which could wear the paint off causing rust....are there any others?
i noticed rust on the exhaust manifold from the start but this is pretty normal...my old toyota truck had that and i drove it for 10-15 years and it never rusted through.....the bumper beam rust may take as long i don't know.....on my honda the exhaust manifold had some sort of coating on it and it never rusted ...it was a nice silver color the whole time...and i traded it in on the rusty evo....lol

Just read this and checked mine, 06 white, and its rusting too. Doesnt appear to be that bad yet, so Im going to call mitsu tomorrow and see what they say. If they give me too much hassle Ill just fix it myself, but Im curious to see their reaction. Hopefully they are more willing to help with this than they were with my alignment problems.
Well I called Mitsu today, 2 different dealerships, and got the same answer from both. They told me unless it was corrosion that would affect the piece structurally that it would probably not be covered. So, I decided to take things into my own hands and check with my body shop on a repair price. Keep in mind this body shop is a little on the expensive side but well worth the money, they told me it would cost between $200 and $300. They also told me the method that they would use just incase I wanted to do it myself. Best approach according to them: remove all the rust with an abrasive wheel, reprime and paint, then use seam sealer around the connection. Seemed pretty simple, but I opted to let them perform the work as Im sure they can do better job than I can.
So far I am completely unsatisfied with the service I have gotten from Mitsu. My car has zero mods, and the three times I have requested warranty service I have been denied. I think its safe to say this is the last new Mitsubishi car I will buy.
On a different note, the Outlanders are also have finish problems. Clear coat is peeling on the fender flares. Once again Mitsu will not warranty. Sad.

When I took my beams off at 15k miles NO rust last year...West coast car barely saw any rain...Only USDM CT9A's have the dumb 5mph 'crash beams' & AYC delete so we get the most 'un-evolved' evo in the world market. Surface rust like that wont hurt your ride or resale.
