you are correct, just yesterday i was driving on the highway when I saw this new X with exhaust, I high beamed the driver several times just to say high.
when I passed him I noticed it was a regular lancer with exhaust and X spoiler .

I was so embarrassed, im glad i have tinted windows.

Thats what im saying. If your car looks factory but your putting down some sick numbers, I would say that makes it a sleeper.

 

I think you can make it a sleeper, if you put all the lancer stuff on, take the wing off anf dont do tints, a piller gauges, or exterior mods. But then I love the way it comes and the JDM rear bumper is sex. lol

 

Wow, how can anyone think a VIPER is an intrepid...

And the EVO will never be a "real" sleeper, even if for some people its an "odd looking" lancer.

 

Why would you buy a Lancer Evolution and try to make it into a sleeper?

The Evo has rich racing heritage to go with it's outstanding performance. Drive it like you're proud of it.

 

I think where you live has some baring on it too. I live in North Stonington CT where the average income is through the roof. There is a guy that lives up the road from me with a lambo, and has no idea what my car is. He was pissed when I lined up with him and killed him :-P.

It seems like the only people around here that really knows what my car is, is younger kids. Also, I believe I saw an evo on here with a base lancer front end on it, and no wing. I guess its possible, but why? Everytime I look at my car I get excited, and I want to take pictures of it before the owner drives away and I loose my chance... then I realize its mine!

 

It's impossible to make an Evo a sleeper.

It's loud, obnoxious, wide, far too aggressive looking, etc.

I el oh el when people say they're Evo is sleeper... only a complete dumbass would think it is.

What's the point of making it a sleeper? Just throw a red or gt35r in it and your sleeper enough

 

Evo 8 JDM rear, no tint, no a-pillar gauges, lancer rear badging, Evo VII Tail lights, totally looks like a lancer from the rear...and if it's a sleeper, more than likely that's all they'll see. So yes, it can be a sleeper.

Now, if they see the front, or the sides, they might know. =/

 

Yup, that's all it takes if the car looks stock. The vast majority of drivers do not recognize it, including quite a few automotive enthusiasts. Ask me how I know.

 

The way it looks doesn't always mean how fast it is. People may care about looks, and not performance because some think, "well, almost 300 hp is enough for daily usage. I think my Evo looks SEXY but I want it to look even more sexy!" Some people want to do both, or some just want straight up performance.

Let me ask you this.. if you drive by a high school, and you see a kid in a civic, crx, w/e.. with a decent wing, actually a nice body kit, tint, and with i dont know, being it a honda and all, lets say $1200-1500 rims with decent tires. Is it automatically going to be fast?

Oh. We're talking about Evo's. In my opinion, it can be done. Sure a lot of people know what it is from 2 Fast 2 Furious and Tokyo Drift, but that doesn't mean every single Evo out there is EXTREMELY fast. They are fast stock, don't get me wrong. But you will never know how fast a certain Evo is without racing it, or seeing it in action. Sure they could have a lot of mods, but is the car even running right? Tuned correctly? Race correctly?

Here is my answer on this topic.. you can make ALMOST any car into a sleeper. No one would know what you'd have exactly if you pulled up to some random person. Sure they can guess a few mods, but not everything without the hood being popped.

P.S. I don't care if you hate on this post. It is my opinion and I highly stand by it.

 

It's impossible? That sounds like your trying to make it sound like it's a fact. Where is your evidence that it is "impossible" to make an Evo into a sleeper?

 

If you could truly make an Evo NOT look like an Evo, then it could be sleeper.

It's IMPOSSIBLE. Unless of course you take a hacksaw to your fenders, remove your big *** brakes, replace even the STOCK wheels with some steelies, put a hood with no vent, replace the front bumper with a Lancer one, etc.

Even a stock Evo is relatively quick. So trying to keep it as close to stock looking might win you some money, but in no way is it sleeper. Maybe sleeper compared to other Evos but nowhere else.

Most people that are into the "scene" (be it imports or domestics) know what an Evo is. Of course to anyone else it's gonna look like either some random ricer, regardless if it's attempting to be sleeper or not.
