Lightbulb Experienced snow drivers

I'm taking a trip to Big Bear this weekend and I've never driven in snow before!
I don't know if I'll be driving on the snow in the first place, but I don't want to be left clueless if I actually DID happen to come across snow.

Any experienced drivers have any tips or advice to share?
It would be much, much appreciated!

with an evo.... dont be worried man, do you have all weather tires designed for snow aswell? if so, just take it easy and keep out of boost! unless you want to have some sideways fun

If you have never driven in snow before im going to guess you have summer tires. I live in maine and we get snow like you can only read about. Just take it slow, give yourself plenty of room to the next car so when they hit the brakes you don't slide into them. When taking corners slow down to like 5mph. Your car will "push" in the snow just like it will in the rain. You want to go left, but your car wants to go straight. If you are trying to turn and it just wants to go straight, touch the ebrake for a second. Its easier to sometimes spin the back to go straight rather than smack of the curb your driving straight into. Just take it slow. You'll be all set.

If there is snow they will make you put chains on going up to Big Bear. With chains on the front and AWD you will be fine. Just make sure you put the chains on right so you don't jack up your fenders.

When I lived in Cali I went up there a lot. I always checked road conditions before heading up 800-427-7623. Sometimes your better off going up the back way, closures, accidents...etc.

Dont hit your ebrake to get it to rotate, I dont think it is very easy on your diffs. I allways use the throtle to rotate. My evo with snow tires in southern ohio is unstopable. The car was rally bred and thats how I drive it. Throw a good beatrush undertray on it and if you do ditch it the only thing you could hurt is the front lip, it will save your drivetrain and other stuff under there. Trust me, been there done that.

use engine brake downhill preferably 2nd gear. brakes+abs doesn't help downhill..

Remove your ABS fuse! With the right (snow tires) you will be amazed how well you can brake...I only use ABS on dry road racing tracks to prevent a lock up mistake and flat spotting expensive tires.

Remember too that the evo will allow you to get going very fast while only stopping as well as any other car on the road. It's a very capable car in experienced hands but easy to get in trouble with due to the drive grip.

Live in utah and get to deal with it a fair amount, get snow tires, stay out of boost, take stuff slow stopping and turn, and know how to counter-steer and you'll be more than fine.

Don't do it on summer tires and take it slow, you should be fine. You'll be sliding in no time, just take it step at a time.

Tires, tires, tires. Make sure you don't drive in snow with the stock Advans or summer tires on!

you can do only one of three things effectively in snow with bad tires at one time:
brake
accelerate
turn.
if you try to slow down and turn with bad tires you will just go straight and crash into whatever is in front of you. Speed is your biggest factor to leading to a crash. With summer tires just go really slow.
