Thinking of selling EvO
I've been looking at this red porsche carrera 911 for a couple days, it is the first time I've looked at another car and I feel like I'm cheating on a spouse.
I'm 6'5" so I understand the comfort thing but I find the Evo very comfy, the racing seats hug my kidneys, makes me feel safe and happy.
I guess the only major thing I would bring up is to stick with AWD; I have really not enjoyed my FWD/RWD driving experiences. I don't like how they handle when they lose traction- very scary. And ++1 to the poster who said to go on lots of test drives; some dealerships will even let you take a used similar model home for a day or two, ESPECIALLY now they will be a lot quicker to help you out.
Good luck!

I'd just buy a cheap daily driver... like an accord or camry. They don't require money for maintanence, there are parts everywhere, good gas mileage and comfortable. Then you can spend all of your hard earned money on your evo! I recently bought a used toyota tacoma (I know you're not looking for trucks) and enjoy driving that on days I don't feel up to the "evo exhilaration". That also helps me fully appreciate the car when I get back in it.
You should never feel that you are maturing or "out growing" something that makes you happy. Impressing other people via a car is somewhat absurd in the first place as you are the owner and the one paying gobs of money for it. Your car should satisfy something inside you, instead of acting as a method of projecting yourself.
If a BMW or Audi is going to advance your social status, you're in the wrong social circle. I went the opposite direction, from IS300 to Evo and couldn't be happier. Owning an evo is like owning a pet lion, it's a tense, high-strung, anxiety-producing experience, but is equally rewarding and thrilling.
There will probably be a time later in life when you will be forced to drive something other than an Evo (i.e. married/children), so take comfort in the fact that you can choose.
Consider taking off the wing, getting a Fujitsubo/Tanabe exhaust (quiet), and maybe a more DD-friendly suspension. You'll still have a very fast car but it will be much more liveable.
i was somewhat in that boat when i bought my evo. it was between a evo anda used z06. and i just couldnt see myself away from the whole import life i like. but to each his/her own. you only live once so why not enjoy it.
wow, i went through the exact same phase 2 years ago. I had my evo for a year and started getting sick of the ugly, loud interior and my gf's mom always hating saying i have a kid's car. So i traded it in for a new g35 sedan. Well, 6months after that, got sick of the crazy car payment and bored of it. Sold that and got an s2000. That thing was way too small and so freakin slow. 5months later i start lingering around in evo forums again. At that point i feel myself wanting another evo even more. So just last year i got my 2nd evo and love it.
long story short....i regretted it like hell for getting rid of my first evo. Time has come though to move on from my second evo. Time to sell it and move on

Along this same stretch of road a large SUV departed the road and crossed the median. I saw this accident. Now, an SUV would be able to take a hit to the door better than an Evo. When the SUV ramped up the opposite lanes it took to the air and when it arrived at earth again it popped open like a raw egg dropped on concrete - the remains rolled up in a ball and scattered about. So, strong and heavy isn't always the answer either.
First, to the OP:
I did the same thing. Had I got a 335 the story may be different, but it also would've been 6 grand more at least... I loved the 911 for the time I was with it, amazing car to drive, very comfortable compared to the Evo, and so on and so forth. Same reasons you're looking at a luxury/sports car, plus the fact that it weighed a whole lot less and was a coupe which I like the feel of better. The car wasn't even that expensive to maintain like people would have you believe. Over the year and a half I owned it, other than failed parts, regular maint. was cheaper than the Evo (Matter of fact, the 10k oil change is the only thing I really miss about the car, that and saying I own a Porsche at 22).
But, truth be told, I drive a TON, the car was a 99 w/ 33k miles on it. Not bad, but in 1.5 years I had it up to 57k. The 60k service is super expensive, and I was beginning to get more and more aware that if something huge should go wrong, I'd be screwed. Anyway, rest of the story is kinda boring but point is I traded it for an STi which really is the best of both worlds. I have no regrets and don't look back. I only really miss the sound of the car, the looks of the car, and the 10k oil changes... This car sounds cool, looks good (IMO)... so really there's just that one thing, and the other things it has far make up for that.
Honestly, I think a 335 would be a good "upgrade" from the Evo. But think about the purchase and test drive the **** out of one before you buy. If you've enjoyed modding your Evo at all make sure you get a car with decent aftermarket too. The 335 would be fine there too, I was miserable having a 2000 dollar exhaust being my cheapest option... for 3 hp...
So buy a C4... IMO a good RWD/AWD combo. But obviously you didn't push the Porsche much either, it is very very scary when it loses traction, even the C4. Instant throttle lift oversteer is kind of a pain too, but once you get used to it it makes the track that much more exciting.
Tell your GF's mom her opinion doesn't matter, especially not on the car you drive. And depending on what she drives and her age, tell her she's driving a car for 70 year olds... Rather be a kid than a grumpy old grandma
And then smile and wave.
Also... What? You regretted getting rid of the first one, and now you're going to do the same thing again? Did you not learn anything? What happened?
