Post if you've ever been pulled over for OEM parts!
The part that confuses me, is the ticket doesn't say inadequate brakes, he wrote me down for 2 exhaust violations, that are written the same minus one word. The contested paperwork I received the other day for my court hearing comes back as inadequate brakes. I hope this will be dropped instantly as the cop wrote down something that clearly is false. I would just take my car to mistubishi and have them Inspect it then bring in documents, but I have sold the car since then.. Now how about this --- I was registered in New Jersey!!! How can he even write me a ticket that isnt a traffic violation? I.E. Running a red light, failure to stop at a stop sign, speeding... etc

Wherever you have your car registered, that's the (vehicular equipment) rules you have to follow. That's one of the reasons I keep KY registration. No valid hassles about tint, exhaust, etc.. Virginia was the only state that tried to give me any true grief. Something about ow driving on their roads implied consent on my part to follow their vehicular equipment rules? I laughed when the cop said that. He let me go with a verbal warning and said I should consider myself lucky.

got a ticket for my stock intercooler. the cop was a dumbass. i'm actually going to court tomorrow for it. i even showed her my Ref paperwork and she still didn't believe me. back when i had my GG Evo IX MR SE i never got pulled over for anything, but when i did get a ticket they just gave me warnings. now that i have the TB Evo IX MR SE i've gotten like 6 tickets so far and i got the car in January.
That cop was just stupid. What if someone had tints on their rear windows? That spoiler is not going to prevent him from seeing inside. That's why they made it unlawful to have tints on front driver/passenger side windows only, at least in Illinois that is. Anything that came on your car as stock should be legal.
Oh btw, I was pulled over for speeding. Once pulled over, the officer said I was going too fast for him to clock me. So instead, he ticketed me for loud exhaust, tinted window, and no front plates. I quickly responded that I have front plates but at the time it was wire tied to the lower front mesh grill (was waiting for my license plate brackets to come in). He looked at it and turned to me and said, it was obstructed. I was like wtf! He then threatens to impound my car. So he walks back to his car, wrote up the citations and came back to me and said, "yeah, I'm going to impound your car". OMG! I was so pissed. Still pissed now that I brought it up again. Brb, I'm going to go punch my pillow.

That's what I thought. I got pulled over another time for no front plate, but as I was Registered out of state, he said I was free to go. You dont cross state lines and go right to an inspection station to see if you qualify to drive on another states roads!

Remember to vote, we have 50+ posts of being pulled over for OEM parts, yet 29 votes for yes.

i got pulled over for my boost gauge... he was like whats that thing that lights up on your dash i was like its a boost gauge sir to read the turbo... he then said you have a turbo thats illegal lol ... i laughed so hard inside i was like im about to go threw the police academy sir and i assure u the turbo comes with the car... i showed him my academy papers and he said have a nice day good luck on being a cop lol... but anyways which brings me to a point there are people out there that have all these stickers and huge wings on there cars that actually are dumbasses.. thats why cops alwasy assume that since you have a good looking car they think you will race everywhere...
Cops are total morons, period. They drive POS Crown Victorias and chargers and hate on everyone. Plus, I have seen many a times a cop or ambulance turn siren on at red lights or stop signs, then after passing turn off.
SAW IT HAPPEN YESTERDAY IN NJ BY A STATE TROOPER TO!
UGH! I'd want to kill them for being such jerk-off's.
Wish we had the autobahn here.. Roll down my window, stick out the finger, and take off, and they could just **** my ****
Thats, IF they caught up to me
Bahaha

I have no problem admitting fault when I have broken a law, but this is just harassment. I am very professional when being talked to and it seems that the officer must have taken offense to me correcting him. Oh well...
Of course, every jurisdiction has different rules, and every jurisdiction has different terminology. In addition, we've all seen Superbad and know that abuse of power is also a very real possibility.
As someone who defends people charged with this kind of crap for a living, I would just remind you guys to remember a couple of things.
1. In most states, even in the case of a traffic infraction, you have no burden a proof. The officer must prove his case beyond a reasonable doubt. To do that, he must have specific facts which constitute the elements of the offense you're charged wtih. For instance, with the exhaust issue, a police officer can not just say "it sounded too loud." That is a subjective assessment of the situation which can change from officer to officer and therefore is unconsitutional. The officer must testify such that he goes through specific illegalities of your actual exhaust.
2. A random stop of your vehicle for a safety or seatbelt check is unconstitutional. There must be a written road block policy where all cars or every ___th car is stopped. They can't just pull you over because you look suspicious. There must be a specified illegality or infraction committed to justify the stop of your car outside of an organized road block. There is federal constitutional law that applies in this area to all states. It is a minimum threshold to which all states must adhere. This is what you all hear about as an illegal search and seizure.
3. In my experience, many police officers do not know the law as well as they claim to, especially younger, more zealous officers. Make sure you are well versed in your state laws. I don't necessarily agree that just shutting up when stopped is the best policy when you are confident the officer is wrong. I have been pulled over multiple times in New York for my exhaust and most times have been sent on my way without a ticket because the officer is misconstruing the law. Don't be an a-hole, but don't roll over either. This is still the United States (for now) and you have the right to have a discourse in defending yourself. This is not Poland in 1939.
I could go on about this topic for ever since it makes me angry and gets me riled up, but I'll stop here. My best advice is to carry a tape recorder with you. The small digital ones are cheap and are the best insurance in the long run. In many states, including New York, it is perfectly legal to record a conversation without disclosing that you are recording it as long as your are a party to that conversation. That is definitely the case in New York and I can look up other individual states if you are unsure. I actually keep my go-pro camera mounted in my car at all times. That way, I can have a video and audio of the event if it goes off track.
Finally, if you are charged with a traffic infraction, by all means DO NOT PLEAD GUILTY without exploring your options. Definitely don't plead guilty in New York. You are potentially setting yourself up for years of financial penalties that flow from a conviction. And certainly don't listen to the Hitler Youth that tell you just to plead guilty because you did it and should pay your dues to society. That is crap and will cost you lots in the long run. There is a reason a plea bargaining system exists in this country. Much of it has to do with obtaining a just result, not simply a conviction.
People in NY, if you have been charged with a vehicle and traffic infraction, are a forum member and have a question, please pm me and I will try to help you.
To the O.P., good luck and don't throw in the towel. See it through and make the officer prove the allegations. It should be especially hard since you no longer have the car and he never formally inspected your brakes or exhaust. It's your word as the car owner against his and that does not constitute beyond a reasonable doubt, especially when you're familiar with the car and he didn't even so much as glance at it.

I agree completly with this guy^^^ I was pulled over on thanksgiving for just a catback (HKS). I was traveling about 45mph and at 2.5k rpms and the guy said that my exhaust was way too loud.
Being California I know that the law is under 95dbs then you're ok; this guy had to go to the manual and look it up. Being that I was let off on all charges this was a complete waste of my time.

WHen i had my civic hatchback (ITR motor). I had a JIC Spartan exhaust on it and a police officer pulled me over while we were in stop and go traffic for my exhaust being too loud. I went to court and tried ot fight it because in GA there is no decibel law. The judge didn't wa nt to hear ****. I saw the same officer a few months later and he said he and his buddy were having a ticket contest to see who could write the most in a week.
He was such a douche...d.ef. could tell he got his rocks off abusing his power.

Thanks Legal-z ... I am definitely not throwing in the towel. I plan on seeing this to the end. Lack of knowledge by an officer shouldn't mean an automatic ticket.
To further show how much cops have no idea what I drive (My car was badgeless and only said "Evolution VIII" on the door by a 1"H x 15"W decal) I got a parking ticket, Make = Honda. I was insulted in so many ways.
