Take it to a good body shop, have them verify and re-verify there is no sign of frame damage. Then you're golden after a good test drive and a quick stop at a reputable shop to have them check the rest of the car out (both of which you should do on any used car IMO).

Like people have said, cars get "totaled" for all sorts of stuff. Want to find a cheap Mini? Their front ends are so valuable that minor front end collisions tend to be "totaled" we're talking cracked bumper and broken headlight. But even for that, go over the car with a microscope like someone said. Especially theft recovery... Never know how the theives drove it, would hate to get it and need a new clutch/tc/etc because they trashed it when they stole it.

I personally do not think it is worth the trouble, nor the headache when you try to sell the car

Some insurance companies will not insure a vehicle with a salvage title. My insurance company wouldn't let me buy my car back because they said they would be forced to not insure the vehicle I bought back from them because of the fact it was a salvage.

agreed - by the time you get the car checked out (and you figure in resale), it'll probably cost you almost as much in time and resources than getting a non-totalled car.

no. they're enough problems when perfectly taken care of, a salvage would be a nightmare

Take a specialist in the field of evo's. There are many full service collision places that will comfirm if the chaasis is straight or not... Take it to one of them.

Mine has a clear title, but it is still screwed up from a wreck, it was never painted right and there is a kink in the roof. Of course i did not notice until after i got it home and ahd it for a few months (soemtimes it takes that long to get a sunny day in WA). I would buy a salvage title car just because they probably would try harder to fix it right than one with a clear title. There is always someone out there trying to pass off junk of course. For the price, i would probably take it.
