Joel's second EVO.... This time its an 8 and the story is NOT so gr8
We took it off because of the hack job the rest of the car was in and because Joel started replacing all the parts with others and decided to do it right. Since it was a stock head and small cams we decided to tear it down and check everything out and put a BR race head on it with some bigger cams.
Thanks for weighing in
Kind of figured all you did was assemble the longblock....

Sorry to see you having these issues. I know the old owner of the car and he made his best attempt at the car. Sometimes with cars that are done DIY you get things here and there that may not be up to your standard.
Did you check it over before you purchased, some of the stuff you describe could have been spotted before the purchase.
As for the engine, you know how it works, when it leaves our hands we have no idea what takes place.
Please PM me if you need more info.

Too much heat in the pistons can do that as well. Detonation will put heat into the pistons and so will flat out overheating the engine with coolant temps. Is the deck surface still level?
Didn't check yet just pulled the head off and saw that and said %(%($) it! Just keeps going and going, when is this going to stop!
Yea Sean,
the car ran pretty good... we drove it 5 hours back home and then it pretty much sat because i was waiting on the title so i could register it, that and I absolutely hated the clutch so I never drove it.
It never get hot coolant wise, the only thing i did notice on the ride home was the defi oil temp gauge was reading high (around 210). But at that point I still didnt know about their not being an oil cooler on the car. We didnt see that until we took off the front bumper to take off the intercooler and turbo setup.
I took the head off, because it was pretty much the only thing left stock, and since i had it all torn down I was going to put a buschur stage 3 head on it. I honestly wish I wouldn't have taken off the head now and saw this. I would have rather driven it for 1000 miles or something and then see it, cause then I could blame myself. But in this case, I cannot.
I do have the reciept from you guys and it lists out machine work to block/head, long block assembly, case assembly etc.
The motor is scored on the front and back sides of each cylinder, which is consistent between all cylinders. If it were something in the oil, it would most likely be random scoring in different places.
Either way, the car needs a motor, and I am really upset that I bought this car "already done" whereas I felt I shouldn't have to do anything (other than change the clutch).
I pretty much bought a rolling chassis now with what I have to do.

Joel bring up a very good point. The walls of the motor should not be like that across the board......
New motor on the way! This motor can be bored and cleaned and put in a new home I am sure.

That's a pretty expensive shell Joel. Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I don't get it. A car that has over 500 hp and it's not beat to death? It might not have been Ivy's fault but after the build the owner probably track it a lot to have that kind of damage to the engine. Hope all worked out for you Joel. Best of luck
