Joel's second EVO.... This time its an 8 and the story is NOT so gr8
wow the seller is a J**ka**
these people should be thrown into fire.
Sean kinda sounds like he promoted the vehicle after a year he rebuilt it?
But no, its not his fault though. Even though half the people in this site will trust his words. It looks like he was in with the scam. Just My opinion.

just wondering if a compression test was done before he bought it. Who is to say that the seller knew the block was in those conditions. More testing should have been done before buying it, simple as that. Is unfortunate, but this is what we all walk into when buying an evo specially a "built" evo.
BTW how is this a scam? It might be if the seller said he took the head off and the cilynders were in perfect condition. my 2cnts. Good luck with everything.

1. not disclosing there was no A/C, zip tied valve cover which caused oil all over the back of the block, no oil cooler, and the many other problems not disclosed
2. misrepresentation of parts (for example, the xspower intercooler): "Turbo XS Big FMIC with Pipes"
3. Quote from for sale thread: "The car is in awesome shape for a 03...dependable and reliable and can be driven every day." i'm suprised i even made it home in it.

the motor is one part of the whole deal...

I see a lot of people saying this will be a great build. I guess a lot of people on this website is rich and would not care if this happened to them. I will be purchasing an evo 9 in April. I would be very pissed if I spend 20k on a car that I have to take completely apart before I can enjoy it. Joel, I feel your pain and don't even know you. I will make sure when I get ready to buy my evo that it is fully check to the max and make sure that it is close to stock.

I am starting to think this is the way it is for most evos at this point. I bought mine sight unseen at an auction so I knew it was a crap shoot and I would be in for some issues. And my car had several. It usually takes me 6 months to a year to sort a car due to expenses mainly and time spent reading up. It took that long on my evo. Now that it is sorted though - I would drive it cross country without any fear.
What supprised me in sorting my evo is how common this is for all of the other evo owners I have gotten to know. Since these cars are street legal race cars that mod easily it is hard to resist modding them but most people cut corners or simply do not know what they are doing. It takes a lot of time to figure this stuff out. So instead of doing that - people just jack them up and do not even know what they have done. The shops I have worked with retell this story over and over again. If the new evo were not such a different car I would skip all of this and buy a new one.
In the end you will have exactly the car you want though. Good luck with the build!

Like Ivey said, the motor was pulled from the original seller and brought down to Ivey. Ivey never had the car in his full possesion or built it. The car was originally built by Pruven Performance years ago...Go look up Kuda and the other owners.
Wouldn't no oil cooler cause most of the problems with the engine? Overheat the oil and you'll have too much heat in the pistons and turbo.
