hmmm thats the problem with buying a car fully built unless you take it to a respected evo shop and get it fully inspected its almost a pass on buying a built one. I understand why people look for this so called stock evo but most evos i have heard about lately being bought have some type of issues the new owner has to sort out. Thats the thing you have issues to work out but once its all said in done let the games and fun begin. You have to know what your getting into before you commit to any evo. It could have issues thats why you should have plenty of spare money in the bank to cover any unknown expenses if you dont then skip the evo 8 and 9 and go for a evo X. TO the op you might want to see what legal ground you stand on since he misrepesented the car. I would consider suing for damages or a refund of all funds and expenses.

This is really the truth from my experience. I have bought ten performance cars over the last five years and had to sort every one of them. With the whole industry moving forward the ability to mod cars and personalize them has never been easier. Also, when people sell these cars they tend to canibalize them before they do which affects the cars performance.

It often comes down to greed. People sometimes want money more than integrity - and sometimes they do not even have a clue of what condition a car is really in - just ignorance.

Just by looking at how cars get modded often tells the tale that the people doing this have no idea what they are doing.

Unless we buy new - chances are we are buying someone elses problems known or unknown. I do not know how to fully avoid this unless we buy a friends car that we worked on ourselves.

I will make sure when I get ready to buy my evo that it is fully check to the max and make sure that it is close to stock.
Yes, and if you can take it to a mechanic and have it looked over. also have a compression test done.

Now that it is sorted though - I would drive it cross country without any fear.

What supprised me in sorting my evo is how common this is for all of the other evo owners I have gotten to know. Since these cars are street legal race cars that mod easily it is hard to resist modding them but most people cut corners or simply do not know what they are doing. It takes a lot of time to figure this stuff out. So instead of doing that - people just jack them up and do not even know what they have done. The shops I have worked with retell this story over and over again. If the new evo were not such a different car I would skip all of this and buy a new one.

In the end you will have exactly the car you want though. Good luck with the build!
Yes, most people have no idea how to mod cars properly. A lot of people buy garbage mods and install them half ***, with zip ties and such.

Correct, in most states (if not all) when buying a car privately, it is AS IS,

but if the selling deliberately or knowingly hide or didnt disclose important info about the car, then sometimes something can be done legally.

It is definally " hide " damaged or not perfect as what seller mention. OP quote the what seller wrote on sale thread. OP can try take this to court, but the problem is OP already opened up the motor, seller can bring up the any excuse for that. But i'm not a lawyer so who knows.
