And the original OP.....good luck with the build.
You should be scared of anything with that level of modification. Most 2.3L I've seen have some sort of issue. If you are looking for a Evo....buy one as close to stock as possible. I know most have been modified and returned to stock. Its a crap shoot. Good luck.

that's really shady i keep thinking of this thread and how lucky i was to buy my evo and how somebody is going to be really lucky to buy it off of me
have you tried to take any recourse?

i feel your pain. 3 weeks after i bought my 03 evo the motor spun a bearing. drove it 800 miles home, and drove it sparingly for 3 weeks, didnt notice a thing, and then that happened. Good luck with the rebuild!

Also, OP, I kinda feel your pain. Same thing is happening RIGHT NOW to my friend.
He bought a 05 MR with 2.3L built block, stg. 3 head, GT30, supposed great tune with dyno charts, etc, etc, etc.
We dyno the car, its make less power then a stock 9 turbo with most bolt-ons.
We check the tune. Its running way low timing up top.
Then we get a giant exhaust leak. Seem a bolt on the housing came loose. Fixed leak.
Then we do a compress test. 180, 180, 150, 180.
Yeah!!!!
The opposite thing happened with my car. The seller listed out the obvious mods and said "a few other goodies not mentioned".
A week after having the car...
Find a turbo timer in the coin pocket, uninstalled but with harness. Sold it but still
Find it has a Avid Front mount.
Find it has a RRE Rear sway bar

This is what Sean Ivey said in the thread "Very well setup car. We had the car and checked it all over, very nice setup and the owner doesn't beat on it.
Sean"
If i were you i would call him right up!!! He did all the work on the car! It says it only has 6K miles on it! But i would diffidently give that a try!

Why go after Ivey?

He may have built it, but from what I am gathering from this thread, that was as far as it went. Perhaps when he did look it over, it was in great shape.
Whos to say what the hell the seller had done to the car after it left Ivey.
Who the hell sells Ivey built cars anyway?
I remember that name from back in my Honda days. I sure as hell would be going after the seller.
Some of you guys are out of control and read way to much into the internet.
I love all this attack of Ivey. Sure Ivey could have built it. Sure Ivey could have said I checked it over, but who is to say that the original owner did not try to fix/change a few things on his own. Who is to say that the original owner didn't take it to some hack shop to save some money and have them work on the car after Ivey gave it the ok.
Ivey has built thousands of high end cars and has proven himself to be an excellent tuner who provides outstanding customer service. No I do not work for Ivey, but I have dealt with many many tuners/builders with my past 14 cars and Ivey is top notch.
BTW: What's up Joel I have not talked to you since the 300ZX TT days over on www.twinturbo.net
Glad to see that your into EVO's as well man, hope all is well.
