Body Panel rust...AGAIN??!!

Ok so let me start out by saying that I did search for this topic. I found this --->Evo's Rust Issues [MEGA MERGE]

After reading through it I decided I do not have the same problem.

I have a 2003 VIII I bought used in 06 with 10k on it. Car was mint.

in 07 i wanna say I started to get some rust that was actually coming thorough the body panel above the wheel well on the drivers side. It started to get bad were it actually made the car look bad. This was at about 25k mile i want to say. I brought it to the dealer and they warranty'd it and "fixed" the rust, it was good for about 2 years i want to say.

I just noticed yesterday that I am getting rust in the same spot AGAIN. The car now has 60k on it. If i remember correctly it has a 100k mile 10 year corrosion warranty?

Can I bring it back to the dealer and have them fix it again? If i cant get this rust issue resolved I can see myself just getting rid of this car. I hate dealing with rust it gets expensive fast and looks like crap.

Ill try to snap a picture of it in a few hours. Its only at the seem right now but thats how it was last time. It will work itself up to the body side very fast and start bulbing and chipping the paint etc. I try to wash my car to keep the salt off often in the winter. And I didn't even drive it last winter. So its only been through a couple months of winter I want to say.

Thanks for any input guys

the 10yr warranty is for any owner, BUT the rust has to penetrate the panel, meaning there has to be a hole through for them to fix it...but it doesnt hurt to go and ***** them out about it.

They covered it under warranty before and I am the second owner of the car. So they couldnt pull that whole your not the first owner things. Besides that has nothing to do with the rust anyway. Why would it matter. Also i do remember them saying that it had to penetrate the panel. That was the issue last time. But they decided that it was going to penetrate so they fixed it. Obviously they didn't do a good job?

Thanks guys Ill have to just bring it by and ask them.

The car is not garage kept except for when I put it up for longer periods of time. Basically that one winter that I didnt drive it it spent in my parents Garage in VT. This winter I have been washing it quite often as I have an unlimited wash pass. 50 bones so I want to make it worth while. So i have been going a handful of times a week. This has only been for two week though.

ethan,

I think i had a similar problem. i had noticed that part of the wheel well was "pulled" or separated from the rear quarter panel. long story short, i went to a body shop and spoke to them about it. they said that getting rid of rust is hard and that there is no sure way to get rid of it. they said that they would have to cut it out and then fix it whether it was bondo or whatever they used and they couldn't guarentee that the rust wouldn't come back.

maybe the dealership just ground it out and then repainted?

i would go to a body shop and get a quote to see how much it would cost and have them cut it out. good luck

Well originally When I spoke to the body shop at the dealer the guy was like "oh yeah no problem Ill just sand it down and bondo it up then paint youll be good as new." I was like ummm no... I spoke to the service manager and told him this and he agreed that if they were going to warranty it they should do it right and cut out the rust then weld in use plastic body filler etc etc.. He said he would talk to the body shop guy and let him know to do it properly. I just dont know if he ever actually did.

It bothered me that this dealership Shaller Mitsubishi in New Britain CT had their own body shop so they had to do the work. I don't know what kind of work they do there so I was skeptical. In addition to this they lost me lug nut key and when i questioned them about it they said I must have lost if becasue they didnt need to remove any lugs. Then I said so you painted this area with the rear wheel on?? He said oh yeah good point and they ripped the old ones off and gave me a new set. I then preceded to lost that key two days later LOL. About a month ago I just took the old locking ones off. I was luck and my tires lasted long enough without being rotated. Ha!
