Unusual Squeak - Help!

mods - i apologize but I HAD to make a separate thread about this noise - it's really strange - please keep it separate for at least for a short period of time -

This noise is:
- a squeak coming from inside the dash in front of the driver
- it is somewhere from around the vents near the windshield
- when the car is cold, it will squeak to absolutely ANY vibration - including vibration from the engine (say, if you almost let the motor stall with the clutch, it will sound like a cage full of mice), even just normal driving engine vibration
- when the car has been driven for a while (i don't mean warmed up, it will still do it then, but after the car has been driven for a while), the noise completely disappears.
- if i turn off the car for a little and let it sit, and then drive it again, the noise comes back!

What kind of squeaking noise disappears just cuz you've driven the car for a while, and comes back?? Also, it's been persistent for about 1.5-2 years

Any ideas at all? Has anyone had this noise???

I'll try to take a video later if I get a chance.

EDIT: VIDS

A big thank you to mods for allowing me to keep this thread separate and not merging it with all the other noise threads - I think it will help me crack down what is causing this particular squeak.

lol i've kind of lived with it but i'm taking care of my car bit by bit and this was next on the list. i also have a cracked windshield, need to get a license plate holder for my jdm rear, etc etc etc.

I actually just got a new clutch today - same noise as before it and after it.
I honestly don't think it's anything mechanical, really sounds like a squeak coming from inside the car, the dash
But it's also weird that the noise will disappear after driving for a while which would maybe suggest it's something mecahnical or something like that

How big is the crack in the windshield?

Could it be that? When did it start?

crack in the windshield is a little less than half way.

I don't think it's the windshield.. pretty sure it can't make that kind of noise. The noise was there before the was cracked anyway

of those i guess the most likely things are gauges - though i'm not sure how
or the navigation system - not sure about timing though

the HIDs i guess COULD be possible except that the noise is definitely from the inside..

sounds like i'm gonna pull the dash apart - anyone got a quick how-to thread link for that?

ok when u turn on the car whether its cold or warmed, u hear the twin clutch makes some sort of a "chatter" noise correct?
cuz iam thinking it might be ur clutch that ur hearing and u think it coudl be something else. its normal for the twins (and some single clutches as well) to make that noise from what i have heard.

yep - but the clutch i just got literally today, just got back from Strictly Modified.
The squeak has been around for very long, and it definitely sounds like its from right under the plastic dash in front of the driver. the clutch does chatter though yea, but not as bad as i thought it would

I'm not sure, I basically just dropped the car and picked it up, was in a slight hurry at the end of the day. I think I'm just gonna have to pull the dash apart in the spring or something... Hopefully it will be an obvious simple fix

Wow man, talk about not taking care of your car. A cracked winsheild, and you continue to drive it? You bought a JDM rear and no license plate hold for it? Then you have been hearing the noise for 1-2 years and you've just ignored it? Ok, you should make some time and take the car in to a EVO specific tuning shop and let them have a look at it.

lol the car's been sitting for about 5 months now, I put it away for the season right after the window cracked. and a lot of people use zip ties to hold their plates for jdm rear, i really dont understand the creating your own plate holder thing people do

..so any contribution about the noise or did you just stop by to judge me? lol

how long does the squeak last for? or is it like a quick squeak every time you hit a bump?
