Until pricing is announced you have NOTHING.

If the dealer writes up a contract, and you get him to put "price not to exceed manufacturers MSRP total with options, you got a "promise"..

Get it on a purchase contract and your only half way there..

But if you sign before the price is officially announced and it's more than what they expected, are you going to pay it?

You will have to if you signed at MSRP.

If I were you, I would just get my name on the list and hope for the best..Geez, sticker for a stripped EVO..No thanks..

Man, some dealer must have really done a job on you...I am sorry for your anger! Have you considered "anger managment"? I have stated before and I will again, people should keep thier yap shut unless they know ALL OF THE FACTS! I don't care if the car is $26K or $27K, hell it could even be $28K for all I care! I want a stripped car with no ABS, enough said! Now for the dealer end of it...did you ever think that I could own a business who buys about 10 cars/trucks a year and have fleet status, or maybe I live next store to the owner of the dealership...or maybe his kids and my kids are friends! So don't tell me I don't have a deal b/c you have no idea wtf your talking about!

well put.

Geez, sticker for a stripped EVO..No thanks..
I already have a daily driver and my wife has the family car. A potential RS might be for competition use, where less weight and deleted features are benefits. Other benefits include the better differential and added chasis stiffness.

First of all..I am not angry, I do have an interest in this topic, which is why I posted....

You read into my post waaay too much..Yea I use caps sometimes, and my words are terse periodically, but I am just trying to state a fact..Unless you are as well connected as you claim..(why wouldn't you include this in your price post anyways if you had some sort of "hook-up" and bragging rights..not like it matters anyway) because you do not have anything until pricing is announced or can scan a purchase contract ....

Can you?

Let's flashback to the forums shall we when the same newbies like you..(and me back then as well) waay before the EVO came out and we were all talking smack about how "yeah, got it for sticker or close to, etc. etc." But meanwhile, the car wasn't even out yet, and when it did arrive, the next thing you know there is a thread started about AVOID THESE DEALERS and an OVER MSRP MARKUP POST started..and everyone was *****ing about how their dealer "screwed them"..

4ringturncoat...all respect bro, but there are some things that you will lack by being a newcomer here, and that is thread reading experience.. Now I'm not talking about the actual reading of the threads for information, I'm talking about all those threads that reaffirm the points that I am making here..that are true..and were posted eons ago that address the very subject you are jumping over my **** about. Some board old timers will remember this..(I still think I am learning every day I am on the EVOM boards, but will still remember these posts and threads better than you because of my experience and involvement in them waay back..sorry )

You weren't around the boards then, and will lack a little bit of that experience that we have as those first EVO's started trickling in..

Can you agree with that??

And on the topic of "getting screwed by a dealer.."I AM ONE ..

Lastly..

I know, I know...I did it again, I threw in a jab about a "base broiler" like the "RS" is..so shoot me..

Look, my point is I KNOW the family who owns the dealership and I know what I will get the car for. Maybe some of you guys got jacked around by a dealer, that sucks, but I am telling you I am MORE than happy to pay msrp for a RS. Not bragging just stating my position on the car. To tell you the truth I would pay as much as a fully loaded Evo but thanks to Mitsu I don't have to.

Just b/c I have newbie status here does not imply in any way that I don't know what I am talking about. I have been posting on S4 board for years...read years...longer then this board has been alive! In case you wonder about my ability to purchase a rare car ( I hope to god you don't think and EVO is a rare car). I have bought and sold rare (like a 1971 Hemi Challenger 1 of 7) cars for a living so I am pretty sure I know how to handle some Mitsu dealer.

Maybe you did get screwed by your dealer but are you happy today. We all have our price we are willing to pay, if it was with-in comfort level and you wanted the car I would chaulk it up to the cost of being one of the early Evo owners. Rememeber, if a dealer jerks you around the best thing to do is walk. We live in an amazing free market economy that allows us to purchase from whoever, for what ever price we are willing to pay. If you paid more then msrp that's fine, in fact if it is what you wanted then great, but to say you were screwed by a dealer really is not right. It takes two to screw otherwise someones just jerking off!

I think you need to read this again:

Being on the S4 boards for eternity and your ability to be an avid poster is NOT what I am taking about..or denying you proper experience of..

Hell, maybe you should re-read my whole post..
Cuz then you started bragging about your abilty to negotiate with a dealer and some muscle car you owned..?!

I give up.

Great to hear your opinions, welcome to the boards..hope your friend sells you the "RS" for sticker....yada, yada, yada.

'04 Lancer Evolution RS

i just got the march 2004 issue of super street in the mail today and it has a write up of the new evo 8 rs. the car weighs about 150 lbs less. it has no rear spoiler, no a/c, and almost none of the regular model's comfort features. it looks like it'll be a really great race model and it'll be about $2k cheaper.

The real weight difference is more like 60 pounds when all is said and done, at least from one report I read somewhere. I can't find it right now though but will keep looking.

i think most of us know pretty well about the RS by now, not to put you down or anything! it's good to see an article about the RS in Super Street.
