E85 vs 93+100%Meth

Since we dont have any E85 here in NJ Im curious as to how comparable E85 is to 93+meth injection (specifically VP M1). I searched and didnt really find any thing and I searched google too and didnt find much useful info.

I've tried reading a lot on the true octane rating of 93+methanol and some sites have said its between 110-116 and others say it doesnt even do anything...I dont believe it doesnt do anything lol. One guy who owns a local speed shop by me even gave me a 3 minute spiel as to how "you kids think you should be putting alcohol into your cars, youre only supposed to put water and the alcohol doesnt do anything except clean your nozzle" I just started at him.

So, should I really be pissed that NJ doesnt have E85, or is 93+meth a very good alternative. And Im not talking in terms of your opinion, like "oh well your pump might fail and if you dont have a failsafe you go boom blah blah blah E85 you dont have to worry about that stuff", yes I know all that. Im talking strictly in terms of the kind of power it helps make thru being less prone to detonation, knock, etc.

btw - I have had alcohol injection in my car for a long time now and run denatured alcohol and will be switching to M1 when I replace my flojet pump with a new Shurflo.

They do about the same power wise... E85 has less cons than meth since theres nothing to it. Meth works well when using the right kit, good install, and a safe tune.

I personally picked up nearly 80whp switching to meth from 93.. It works, that guy is a tool....

Cheers!

It will depend GREATLY on how much meth you're spraying. We're making 708whp on E85 with an S362, and another local is making 691whp on another S362 on pump/meth. He's running 2 big nozzles. If sized right, you should be able to make roughly the same power, just bear in mind you may never get even distribution with meth unless you do a direct port setup.

Personally, between clogged nozzles, sticking checkvalves, and failed pumps, I gave up on meth long ago. And after tuning my friend's car on E85 and dealing with the black goo, not to mention the cost to have basically twice the fuel capacity flowing, it's not worth it for me. I stick to pump gas, and I have a 2nd tune for pump/Torco additive when I want to hit the track or whatever. It's cheap, safe, and makes plenty of power (pretty much equivalent to VP unleaded).

I wish we had E85 here so bad because Id honestly love to ditch the meth injection just so I could completely clear that bad feeling out of the back of my head.

I'm not sure what nozzle is in my car right now, I believe its an M7 and Im going to be stepping up to an M10 when my Red goes in. The Shurflo I bought was from AlkyControl in Florida, Julio's cool as hell and very knowledgeable.

The Shurflo pump is an internal bypass so it has much better atomization from constant pressure versus older style pumps which run off a switch and kind of pulsate their spray.

To answer your question you need to be extremely pissed off that there is no e85 available to you in NJ

It is lame that NJ does not have any E85 stations. Though you should be mad at the fact that you still live in NJ. =P

I am getting meth tuned in my Evo 8 tomorrow and I will let you know what I find out. I currently have 472HP and 462lbs with 93 alone and I am anticipating atleast 530HP once tuned.. I am not going to push it to the max and will be pretty liberal on the tune for the car.. Well turbotrix will be atleast... Anyhow.. shoot me a PM around Friday and I will let you know what happened.

E85 is a safer choice but if u cant get it then run what u can. but i recommend a shut off sensor for the meth (just in case someone isnt running a shut off sensor).

Power gas in east orange nj, they have e85 for the past couple years now. 5 minutes from my office, I'm thinking of switching to e85 and getting a big drum in my garage.
