Why do people criticize the evo?
I always find that people either love or hate the evo.. doesn't really matter why. Most haters think it looks too much like rice (and lets face it, its a 4 door sedan with a wing and loud exhaust).
But who cares? Anyone that knows anything about them feels otherwise. So let the haters hate.

i hate it when they say EVO<STI
especially when they have neither. personally, i dont really care about the comparison because its 2 different cars, the more different if the owner modified it according to HIS/her personal taste.
oh well. just saying.... have them say whatever they want to say. its a free country.

Anyone that hates on Evos simply does not know anything about cars or at least not about Evos. I agree with what someone said earlier in the thread, they are probably the best performance car for the money since the DSM. I couldn't care less about what some random guy thinks about my car or any car when he himself knows nothing about fast cars. Anyway, if you think driving an Evo gets reactions like that, try still driving a DSM. The average person probably thinks I'm no different then someone with a base model Civic that has nothing but a universal muffler on it.
Love it or hate it, they'll still be talking about it and that's fine with me.
Look at it this way, if you were driving a silver 3 series that doesn't stand out and has no distinct personality or character, nobody is really going to say anything at all - good or bad.
Most people who know about cars know that the Evo is not just another rice bomb civic with a wing...it's a legendary car and the IX was the last "real" line of Evos...the X seems to be an attempt to distance the Evo from what it really is - a street legal race car that has what you need and nothing you don't.

I gotta say I really get dissapointed when people always say why do you drive that car? Or some have mentioned how this car doesn't fit me? What do people know about me really? Whats wrong or so bad about this car? I guess its peoples lack of knowledge and the big wing with the loud exhaust that makes this car look boy ricer. Its sucks being a bit older driving this car around because some just think its a typical import thats all show and no go. To be honest I love this car to do but I wish it gave off a different image. I thought about going to a x but the money I have invested doesn't justify it. I don't want to be shallow or really care what others think but it does get to me sometimes. I am 29 and sometimes I feel like I out grew this thing. What else can I really get for the money that can compare to this thing??? In my eyes nothing...
i have wanted this car for like 7 years and now that i have one i get crap from people deep down they no its a sweet car justlike to hate. and i take it with a smile knowing that i love it
I usually ask others whats the difference between this and a muscle car? Usually they say well whats up with that huge wing and I just nod my head and walk away. I really don't care to inform them of the history of the evo due to the fact the ones who comment negatively usually are know squat about cars anyway.
Lots of good points in this thread.
We own one of the best driver cars out there - period. If anyone gives a dirty look i just give it a little boost
If anyone hates, take em for a spin...im actually debating on mounting a camera. Its hilarious.. "oh my god...oh my god.." Lol.

The X was certainly (in my opinion) a point to confront the issues that the 8 and 9 had from the market's target customer. If you actually consider the logic many bought these cars and drove them for less than 10-15K miles and then sold em because it had all the performance they wanted but none of the amenities a $35-40K car should. So they cut back on the all out race performance and took a note at the amenities.... lets face it 20yr olds can't afford $40k cars unless they are rich, and the car market does not account for those types of people. The customer to be heard and the OE wants them to come back to buy more cars
