Its been a while - after 2 evos, in an Sti - my review...
Wow it's been a while since i came onto EvoM so just thought i'd update some of you guys who are planning to do what i did (well mine was unplanned :P ) ...
Years back (i believe 2005), i hopped into a 2003 Evo 8. Loved it. let me rephrase that....LOVVVVEEDDD IT. It was my dream car the minute my friend took me for a ride in it.

I had a few mods: ACT street clutch, AEM intake, HKS Carbon Ti Turboback, AMS MBC, Works short shifter, bushings, tein S-Tech's, wheels, carbon hood, blah blah.. it was a basic bolt on evo which was still SH*T-fast. Eventually sold it, got myself into a cheaper car at the time... (stage 2 SRT-4).
Missed the evo too much, got into an 05 Evo with H&R Springs, HKS DLI, aem intake, exhaust, RPF1's, blah blah...lightly modded but still fun as hell. Eventually sold this one simply because i got to work from home when i was at my previous company so my large monthly payment wasn't justified.
Two and a half years later of driving an economy car and 4 motorcycles, i was in the market again for a turbo compact car. The only choices were Evo IX or 05 STi. I said why not try the dark side? i've already owned two evos and here i am.....

05 STi...full catless turboback, Project Mu brakes, FEAL suspension revalve for daily driver specs.
I will say this - handling wise - i EVO ALL DAY. i don't see how this is a competition as the evo's steering response is god-like compared to the sti's. the seats also suck *** compared to the evo's recaros. the sti seems to also eat up more gas ( i bought it stock). visually - the sti is a much better looking car inside and out. the sti's boxer rumble is definetely more of a ear-pleaser than the 4G63's output.
As its been told before - if you want performance - go evo. If you'd like a better looking car (my personal opinion of course), better interior, stronger tranny, and subaru's support over mitsu's lack-of support - go STi
and for sh*ts and giggles, here are some photos of bikes i've built and sold (side business of mine)....

CLIFFS: owned 2 evos, got an sti now. never planned for it. i like evo. i like sti

Congrats on the EVO.
I have had 3 EVOs and two months ago I bought my first STi, an 05.
The STi is a better DD, especially stock vs stock. STi has a better interior, better ride, etc.
The reason I got rid of mine (YES, I got rid of it within 2 months of having it) is that STi must have GLASS motors. All you hear about is motors blowing and Sti have had the engine replaced once or more. Seriously, Sti engine blow alot it seems and even at low/stock power levels and low miles.
So I ran back to the 4G63
(even though i never sold my EVO, the Sti was my DD)

Ive had my STI stolen 3 weeks ago so I decided to buy an EVO instead cause they are ALOT less likely to be stolen where I live...Your lucky if you see an Evo once a year.. (some place in Canada ;P)
So , to tell the truth, I was 100% satisfied with the STI (2004).. Added some minor features and was about to become Stage 2 before the steal... I really wanted another one but I dont think I would gave been able to sleep knowing the thieves might come back.. (I dont have a garage yet)
So, here is how I see things now that I have the EVO. (IX MR 2006)
Power : STI > EVO : It might not be faster than the evo but good god did that thing pulled compared to the EVO... alot more brutal. However the power did not last long on the RPM so you had to shift alot.
Shifter: STI > EVO : Shifting was crazy fast on the STI... the EVO I still dont get it right, Im far from the STI and I dont think it'll ever get close enough to call it a tie.
Seats: EVO > STI : Unless your fat, you want to EVO seats. If your overweight, you will hate de EVO seats... Im on the light side, so EVO all the way and by ALOT.
Handling : EVO > STI : No constest. *cough* q-rack *cough*
Engine : EVO = STI : We all know the 4G63 is the best, however, I prefer the deep rumble over the high pitch..
Look : STI > EVO : Ask any girl... The STI wins everytime... They call the EVO a family car with a cartoonish wing...
Feel : STI >EVO : If I had to choose a daily driver i'd take the STI. I felt the road alot more than what I can feel in the EVO... I would say I had more fun riding the STI, felt like a race car...suspension was great. Also the cruise control is a big winner for me... At least I have the A/C in the EVO... (which I had in the STI too)
Interior: EVO > STI : Lets just say the two cars interiors suck. But the 04 Sti interior is evn worst... I know it got better with the 05 but seriously, even the radio was an option in the '04 STI ..
So.... I guess so far I prefer the STI... but dont get me wrong, I know the EVO is a better car on the track but since Im not a racer... I dont get to use it hard enough to see the difference (other than the handling).
To conclude, all I can say is that im still in love with this car, even tho I think I prefer the STi, and hope to keep it for a long time because when I look around for anything else in this price range... damn are the other cars boring!! :/
I will probably be flamed for saying I loved the sti but I take the risk :P
