Removing PCV valve before powdercoat?

I just tried removing my PCV valve on the back of the valve cover because Im getting it powercoated tomorrow. I got a wrench on it and tried removing the fitting but it just keeps spinning, am I missing something is there a special way to remove it??

Do I even need to remove it or can I just leave it?

Take a screw driver and wrap some rubber or leather around it. Use it as a pry-bar to pry the PCV out of the valve cover. This is what I did and it plopped right out without damaging anything. I then threw the PCV in the garbage can & replaced it with -6 fitting. I'll be using catch can without recirc back into the IM.

you can leave it as long as it is taped off

otherwise it needs to be spun towards the valve cover and it'll come right off

Every coater will do things differently, but we always remove the pcv valve and block off the threads. If you tape it off, chances are they will still get some coating on the end of the pcv valve. Powder coat is thick, if for some reason you need to remove it later down the road you'll either have problems taking it off OR you'll be able to remove it but also take the powder coat along with it.

It's just a fitting, it's not threaded at all so it won't come out unless you pry it out, or pull while turning it.

Sorry but that is incorrect, the pcv valve does have threads.
There are 2 parts: a fitting that is on the valve cover, and the pcv valve that threads onto that fitting.

not sure where you got this from

as Carlos stated above the pvc valve is threaded onto the fitting pressed into the valve cover

Yea you guys are correct that the PCV itself is screwed into the fitting (that goes into the valve cover). If your going to powder coat I would remove the entire PCV and fitting (and to get the fitting out i'd pry it out like I explained). If you take the PCV valve off first you'll have more trouble trying to pry the rest of the fitting out.

Ok so the whole fitting itself needs to be pried out, sorry I shoulda been specific I know the valve part itself screws in, but I want the entire thing off the valve cover. It needs to be pried?

That is correct, you can use some pliers and it shouldn't be too difficult to take off.
