I would never consider doing a timing belt without replacing the hydrolic tensioner

You can get kevlar belts (Gates, Greddy, HKS, etc...) and in theory they should be less resilient to stretch and cracking. However you have to consider the hydrolic tensioner, tensioner pulley, and balance shaft tensioner are all OEM.

Either of those crap it's $$. I run the Gates Kevlar for a little more pom at double factoy hp but still follow 60k timing component change. To me it's cheap insurance.

Again. You are really helpful buddy . I definitely will change all the components with factory parts however I did a little research before i made this thread but still not really sure what to choose on the belts that's why I made this thread to see more inputs on people opinions. But in the end my conclusion is there is no such thing that a belt lasts longer than 60k miles on evos as of my car is pushing 360whp and i don't want to take chance in anyways. I will definitely take your advise on this. Thanks

Thread revival but I need some help... I have an '04 Evo VIII and I am gathering parts together for it's 120k timing belt service. I have almost all OE parts and numbers but I am getting confused on some things. I will list out what I am getting and if you guys can let me know if I am missing anything or have something I don't need please tell me! Also have some OE part numbers included but you can ignore those.

Balance Belt: MR984778
Coolant
Hydraulic Tensioner: MR984375
Serpentine Belt
Timing Belt: MD326059
Water Pump: 1300A065

(FYI - Spark plugs done 4k ago)

When I asked my tuner/mechanic (Ron @ RS Motors) he said something about an idler behind the PS bracket. I have been getting the parts together and need to know if I need this idler as well? Is there anything else I am missing?

I am also doing all the lifters at the same time because 3 are ticking AND doing t-case, diff. and trans fluids as well. The cost on this is not making me happy (roughly $1,400) BUT with taxes coming in and me not wanting to skimp out on ANYTHING I wanna make sure it's being done right with nothing over looked.

Thank you for all help in advance!

Just found this stuff out from local dealer and myself:
Idler: MD373939
Idler Bolt: MD374022
Idler Bolt: MF140241
Pulley: MD374877
Pulley Bolt: MN119106

I believe that idler is the part the tuner is talking about when he said "Idler behind PS bracket"?
