Imo when it comes to FP turbos there's two options HTA green or the black, it's like filling gas there's regular or premium. Who fills mid grade?

i would go with a green over the black on a non built engine, on a built motor i would choose the black because then you can put the turbo to some real use by letting it run high boost

Yes. The difference is pretty much only the compressor wheel.

thanks for all the awesome info guys. Going with the black would have a much more fun top end once things were built and pushing mid 30 psi. But built motor, tcase, tranny and another new clutch are going to kill me. Such a difficult decision lol

The T-case and trans will be fine with the black.. the clutch on the other hand.. depends on what your currently running. Like I said before as long as you stay around the 500whp area you should be safe with the stock motor, but if you push it above 550+ you might be asking for a motor upgrade as well, and maybe a new hood if the rod decides to let go on an up-stroke. Also with the Black as stated earlier, you have to use a different kind of oil just for protection and lubrication.. There's a thread started about it on here somewhere as well.

For a stock block a black seems like a ticking time bomb. It's hard to buy a journal bearing turbo with that new HKS GT7640 out. That's the turbo to buy for a stock block right now IMO. HTA green performance without the journal bearing.

I know this is for the X but very similar turbos. My Fpred on E85 stock block vs FPblack on E85 built motor...the difference in lag is so minimal but the gains are there big time.

If you want your motor in one piece I would get the black. The black has a bit more lag and has a different tq ramp up then the red.Tq and how it hits keeps your block together and so does the tune.If I was you ask for a soft pump gas tune..
