Ok so this weekend I'm finally biting the bullet and stripping out my girl to start the big rebuild.
The aim is to create an FQ600 (600hp at the fly), or rather the EVO I would have loved to make had I been one of the boffins over at Mitsubishi. I'm going to try and modify just about everything about the car but maintain the factory appearance and finish so as to draw as little attention from the fuzz as possible. It's currently sporting:
TMR Uprated progressive rate springs
TTF Slotted & cross-drilled rotors
TMR Engine pipe, Intermediate Pipe & S/S muffler
Walbro Internal Fuel Pump
GTpumps TD05-20G-LT
Invidia Cast Dump pipe
HP-Flash
Magnaflow 3" Metal Cat
S/S 3" Front pipe
I'm going to try and do as much of the work myself and use a lot of the how to's on this site (black out headlights & taillights, Double DIN conversion & HVAC relocation, HID conversion etc) and will be posting up pics of each stage as it goes.
A respray in Liquid Yellow (Renault Megane F1), 2.3l stroker kit and re-trim in black alcantara are the definates, the rest is open
Any thoughts/ideas would be great, particularly on wheels
Will have pics up on the weekend

No. Mine is a 2004 Oz delivered VIII. We never got the FQ's down here. The reason I used the FQ spec is because I'm going to build a car in that vein, something that could look like it came from the factory. So no GT wings, external gates etc
Ryan thanks for posting the pic re colour.

Ok I was looking around for some gauge overlays like Trustz that show Kph (not Mph) and found these:

I think they look awesome, has anyone tried these at all?

Uh oh, I think you are going to lose some credibility by attempting to call this an FQ600, which naively makes the implication that your car is somehow related to the UK FQ series.
While you state that you are building your car in the "spirit" of an FQ by making the exterior appear stock, I hardly think that an after market yellow paint job, blacked out headlights and tail lights, double DIN conversion, and Trust gauge overlays would qualify as stock appearance. Nor would these modifications be consistent with the UK tuners who created the FQ400.
To your credit, the final outcome of your car could be described with another F word, but I digress.

The color is going to be pretty awesome, cant wait to see it. Id say for wheels, black might be too much like a bumble bee. Graphite grey may look better. But black wont look bad either for sure.
My other additions would be, a jdm rear bumper and nose chop your front bumper

ok so after many months of being put on hold due to work commitments the build is back on. Car has been stripped and the interior blacked out and I'm currently working on the sound deadening. I've ordered a whole bunch on MAPerformance parts (kudos to Adam and Chris for hooking me up from the other side of the world). Will post some pics soon.
Just to clarify the goal is not to make the car look stock or as any EVO has been from the factory. I'm thinking "factory special" - so it needs to look like it could have come from the factory - no pod filters or lumpy idle, no guage pods or aftermarket electronics hanging out all over the place etc etc. This means compromises (added weight for better NVH levels for example).

Ditch the FQ 600 name and you're golden lol......every mom and pop can call there car an Fq600 once they get 530+ WHP.
The closest cars IMO that would embody the FQ name would be FP black cars that also have the the low end response as well as the hi HP output.

so while i'm waiting for my street wheels to arrive (ADVAN RZ 19x9 - I use the stock wheels for track work) does anyone have any recommendations for a good tire with reasonable/low road noise? Im ok to sacrifice a little grip on my street tires for a quieter ride.
also im trying to modernise the look by painting some of the aero bits (front lip, side skirt extensions, rear bumper extensions, fill panel on JDM rear, spoiler blade) in gloss black. cant decide with the vortex generator though - gloss black or liquid yellow?
