Evo pedal to floor is same as half way?

Ok so I'm not sure of this is normal... Because I don't remember...I bought my car 5yrs ago and boom put a intake and a tbe and did NO TUNE. Don't get me wrong I understand I need a tune.. But I don't know how bad... Was waiting to get cams gauges and cam gears... Now got them all but evo is in storage. Now I might sell these cams and cam gears now because I don't know if I wanna mess with the internals.

Anyways..... I seriously don't know if this is JUST ME.. When I push the pedal half way in my evo the car flys.. I mean it seems normal... Fast.. But if I push the pedal half way and I decide I want too go a lil faster and I push the pedal to the floor... The car just reacts the same way as I was pushing it half way.. Is this just me? Boost leak?

I bring this up because I remember going down the highway and a sti pulls up and revs.... So I go.. I push the pedal.. And boom I started to take off fast... Then it seems he pushed his too the floor and his exhaust was screaming! And he was flying so I was thinking "oh he'll no" so I push the pedal to the floor for a little but lol... The car was already reacting like the pedal was to the floor already.

Maybe a tune will help?

Step 1 is to perform a boost leak test.

Evo 8 turbo spools so fast. My car does the samething. Its not hard to get up to higher boost on part throttle.

I know what your talking about. It feels like the pedal has a lot more effect on the engine from the 0 to 50 % throttle than 60 to 100%. Full stock boost comes on at around 65% throttle, so i dont expect much more power to occur when pushing the pedal down any further. It does disappoint me though. Anyone care to chime in?

I've experienced the phenomenon that you're talking about, but it doesn't happen all the time. I really don't know what causes it, but it maybe my Hallman mbc causing a boost spike.

If you're still on the "factory tune", then it seems like your heading in the right direction with the parts you have. Get it tuned, you will enjoy your car a whole lot more.

I had the same problem! A professional tune will be the best for it. I found out that after I did the same mods as you, I was over boosting a little bit, so my car was cutting the fuel or retarding timing. Since I have a boost controller, I turned the boost down and now I can push the pedal all the way to the floor and it pulls strong the whole way!

Very well could be you just need a tune. Where in MN are you located? MN has a few good shops/tuners, and especially considering the cost of a tune it's the single best mod you can do. There are also quite a few locals who are always willing to lend a hand when it comes to helping new guys install mods so that will take care of your cam install.

Check out www.MitsuStyle.com if you're looking to get involved with the local Minnesota Evo community. I'm originally from MN so I know most those guys really well.

Check out MAP and DB Performance too. Shane @ DB is the one who always tuned my IX.

Oh hey may I ask this question....

I have a tbe and a intake... Don't think I am going to install the hks 272's I have because I don't wanna cause any problems with the car.. I heard about the idleing issues & Louder lifter ticking noise. So I will get rid of them unless I get convinced to get them installed. But I was going to ask.. What else would I need before the tune?

Manual boost controller... Fuel pump.. And I have a boost gauge.. Is it nesessary for a air/fuel ratio gauge? I don't know what gauge... AEM wideband?

Thanks for the responses.

If it were me I would ditch the HKS 272's for something better like Kelfords. You can have cams installed and you're not going to mess anything in the engine up. Any time you add more power you take the chance or "hurting" the engine, but a basic bolt on car I don't foresee causing you much of any problems.

Cams, headstuds, MBC, fuel pump, stock metal BOV, LICP, FMIC and a tune and you should be pretty good to go. Should make pretty good power and have plenty of reliability.
