Can I just remove the Balance Shaft Belt
the rear upper balance shaft just gets plugged up, but the lower balance shaft (the one attached to the oil pump sprocket) gets the stubby or AMS shaft placed on it.
make sense? personally the AMS shaft is a bunch of bs.. buschur to this day still uses the OEM stubby shaft with excellent results and so does Kiggly who is super well known for keeping having the longest lasting oil pumps reving to 10K+ rpm.
Below is a older picture of my car before i built the engine up.. it will give you an idea how it works.

what i explained above is assuming the bearings are already installed in the engine..

So it sounds like the evo is just like an old school 4g63. The oil pump is driven from the timing belt. So there would be 0 oiling issues related to removing the belt. The only thing would be the slight vibration at idle which the balance shafts are supposed to clean up.
From a purest standpoint this is a ghetto way to do it. However has no affect on performance/relibility of the motor.
The hard part about doing it the correct way, wich involves the BSE kit, is that RRE recommends that you do this while the motor is out of the car, and just because you have the timing belt off they say that you are only half way there if you do the BSE also. So I do not want to pull the oil pump off the car in order to do the BSE.
My main reason for doing this is just to avoid having the belt fail and killing my motor. When I go built motor the BSE kit will go in.
Also the evo has 115k on it, and the belts have never been done. None of them. I picked up the car used so I am just doing the stuff that the other owner(s) should have done.

The actual balance shaft belt itself is wrapped around the rear upper balance shaft and the inner side of the crank sprocket itself behind the crank angle sensor trigger plate.

Thanks now it makes perfect sense.
The one thing that looked worn on my car at 60K was the balance shaft belt. I wouldn't wait to do the service on yours.
I'm new to the 4G63. Do most owners:
a) remove the belt then do a delete during a build?
b) do a delete when they start modding?
c) change the balance shaft belt religiously with the timing belt at <60k?
d) remove the balance shaft belt at the first timing belt replacement?
I'm thinking the vast majority (~90%) does (c) and keeps the belt. Yes?
