Evo 5 Information
Evo 5 Information
Hey Guys I have a few questions. I have used every keyword combination I could think of in my search. I am in Japan and I am limited to the HKS's, and the Greddy's etc. I want to get in on the good stuff that makes the power. Evo's here in Japan just aren't doing what you guys are doing with them. I want a good Tubular manifold that will allow me to use any turbo I want to use and still maintain a decent fitment between the engine and radiator. I want an intake manifold that will bolt right up to the head and fit into the engine bay.
So to my question, I have contacted a few vendors on fitment of their product into an Evo 5. They are not sure due to the fact that it was not sold in the states and they have not testbed. I really don't want to blow $2500 on a Intake manifold and an exhaust manifold just to find out it does not fit. If that is my last resort then I can make it fit but I would rather not spend the time to do so. If anyone has an Evo 5 in the states please let me know what works and what does not. This forum is huge and I have exhausted the search in every way I could think of.
I am limited on resources here and want a fast Evo V here in Japan. Thanks

Do you have the turbo already? If not what are your goals, and are they more than a stock framed turbo can give you(ie. FP black). Also for intake if your worried about fittiment there alot of options for stock ported intake manifold like MAPrev3 or BR JDM ported if you want to do a core swap. There is a recent thread discussing many ported options. I'm assuming you have APO address for shipping.
No turbo yet, Just crank, Cams, springs, NAPREC will do the head with large valves, I go(well went) to sendai to race the 1/4 in my S15 but I am seeing a lot of good stuff from the states I want to take advantage of, I might just buy and adapt, because I still have to meet JCI requirements. I want a front facing turbo manifold, not sure what turbo yet. I have a T88H-38GK on the S15 but I don't want that kind of lag but I still want a ~10sec Evo. I have been doing Nissan and Toyota for the past 17years this is my first Mitsubishi and I am jealous of the Stateside guys lol. I might just sell this and get an 8
Would you consider a stock frame turbo like the FP ones? Might cost you a penny shipping but you can use standard manifolds and downpipes then plus they make really good power.
That is what I was looking at for now, I don't have the PPG Dog box yet, or the built Transfer, and well Diff for that matter. I am all about the bling and the Speed. I was thinking I will just pick up an intake and exhaust manifold from a 7 or 8 if it fits then it fits and I will have opened up the market for the manufactures to sell to all the V~VI guys, I got the means to make it happen.
Any intake/exhaust manifold that offeres stock fitment locations for pipes etc on an evo7-9 will work on an evo4-6 as those manifolds are interchangable (too a degree).
Only difference is the dump pipe (O2) which on the evo7-9 use a donut gasket which the evo4-6 don't use, they just use a normal flat gasket.

Check out lancerregister.com also there are plenty of IV-VI owner there who can give info. Here are some of the flow rates of mostly stock framed turbos including the FP black(based off a 9 turbo so you would use the same install kit as 8 owners for the small lines/piping):
Stock8.............38 lb./min?
Stock 9………….. 41 lb./min
BBK Lite ………….. 47 lb./min
FP Green (Gen 1)… 47 lb./min
Tomei ARMS ……… 48 lb./min
BBK Full……………. 51 lb./min
FP 73HTA Green…. 54 lb./min
FP HTA 3076……… 57 lb./min
BBK-B……………… 57 lb./min
FP Red …………….. 60 lb./min
GT35R ……………… 65 lb./min
FP 82HTA Black…… 68 lb./min
So you have some great options for turbos that just bolt right in. Are you sure you want to weld your diff, wont that kill drivablity and is it really needed?? If you have and APO address you won't have to pay the extra for shipping. Here is a thread on intake mani's:

Good luck with the car sound like it will be an awesome build keep us posted.

You must have misunderstood, I would never weld my Diff, I would go cusco, or something like that. Yeah I am liking those options you listed. Especially the FP 82HTA Black…… 68 lb./min That sounds like it is right up my alley. Stock frame I might go with a nice tubular manifold for a good bling and nice power. Nudge120
