Knocking sound top mount front suspension

Hi guys,

I need everyone's help, I had Bilstein Ralliart coilover suspension mounted on my EVO 8 GSR, I am puzzled that there is a knockking sound the comes at the top mount of the shocks. I have tighten the bolts on the top mount and it seems to be tight and took the car fora spin and yet the knocking sound is still there. The sound came when driving on uneven surface but on the highways it seems to be alright. Can anyone help me to solve this issue.

Have you check your strut mount and the bump stop. How much miles on the shocks?

Are you driving it at extremely cold temps? Coilovers are notorious for making clunking sounds when it is cold out or below 0 outside. Let the car warm up or park it indoors for a while and see if the problem still exists. Unless the shock is leaking, it shouldn't be blown.

Nope I live at a tropical climate, and I did remove it to check any defects but there were no leak, the knocking sound seems to be some were around the top of the shock mount only at some rough surface but on a smooth roads it does not make any sound. If the shock is blown it will make knocking sound on smooth and rough surface.. hope any one can help me on my issues....thanks

Welcome to the world of coilovers. Like stated above ALOT of coils make clunking noises. Even brand new ones from my experience. Rent a wireless db reader, attach the sound magnets ALL OVER the coil over, put the headphones on and make it happen. That will narrow it down within an inch or so. I use em at the dealership i work at to find them pesky noises/ vibrations. Good Luck!!

so its normal for coilover suspension systems, here's what I have done, remove the suspension assembly cleaned it check for potential leak, and assemble back again and tighten the bolts for top mount, FYI the top mount is still using the stock top mounts. After a few days after tightening then one the noise came. so any tots of this issue

Hi, I see this post is from last year but I am new to the forum and was looking up this issue as I have it with my evo8. I also have bilstein coilovers and this sounds like the excat same problem im having. the knocking is happening from the front left, it comes and goes. i went to get it checked out, paid for them to inspect, service, clean, the front struts/shocks and they said it was all good now.. the knocking went away for 2days but is back now. anyone with new information would be much appreciated ! thanks !
