Tire Suggestions

Its about time for me to start shopping for a new set of tires. Im debating should I go with 245/40/17 or 255/45/17.

I have the stock 7 spoke MR BBS wheels and my car is making 325whp and 300wtq on a mustang dyno. The car is my DD and driving conditions is damp a lot of times. I do both city and highway driving. No autox, track, but I do like to drive spirited at times. When I get a chance, I do take corners hard and some quick take offs.

Right now I am thinking about getting a set of hankook V12, but I am open to suggestions. I would like something that grips fairly well in dry and wet conditions and also last fairly long.

I run the Hankook V12's and they are a really nice tire for DD duties. I've had them on my car for a little over a month now, and so far they've been everything I could ask for in a max performance summer tire, they're even nice in the rain. I found this out a week after I had them mounted, rain in June in California lol. I've also auto-x'd these tires twice now and they were ok out there.

hey! i just got some hankook evo ventus v12's they're really good. good all around tire for max summer performance and good in the rain. not good in snow at all... so i've been told. the life on them also is good too! i think someone said you can go 255/45/17 on them and they're going to fit good with a lot of beef to it.

I forgot to mention I am on the swift springs with the blistein shocks. Will the 255/45/17 cause any rubbing issues?

You mention your driving style, making it seem like traction is playing a role in your decision.

If that's the case, just get a sticky tire in the factory size. You're not going to lose a <200 treadwear tire on the street in the dry.

If you want stance, then you'd want a 255, but you'd probably also want a different wheel.

Are you looking for a tire that can serve all year-round, or just a dedicated summer? Also, what is the budget....that's very very important.

BTW, you'd want a 255.40, not 45. But answer my 2 questions!

I also run the Hankook v12's and they are a good budget tire. Excellent grip and wet traction but they have soft/flexy sidewalls. Overall I am satisfied. If you arent going to stay with the stock tire size then either go with 245/40 or 255/40. The 245/40 is smaller then stock and your speedo will be off by a couple mph. 255/40 is almost same size as stock but depending on if your lowered and how low you might rub on full lock.

The Hankooks in stock size. Good luck.

I want to spend $150 or less per tire. These tires will be all year round, but SF weather is pretty much same all year round. It is summer right now, but outside is misty and damp.

Is there any real advantages of going 255? I like the look better and probably will have more contact patch, but not once has the evo failed me with the 245.

Just looked at tirerack and both 245/40/17 and 255/40/17 are the same price. Which one should i get?

For your application, no, just drawbacks.

1. Re: The look
2. "More contact patch," whatever that means, no. The area is the same, but it will be shaped differently. Not necessarily an advantage.
3. 245, why, and how could it "fail" you?

Neither. You should get the tire in the size mandated by the car - 235/45/17. Why is this even being questioned?
