I read about "grandpa evo" a few years ago, I'm happy to see he is still going. This thread gives me hope for long life out of my evo. 113k miles so far.

I know it has a cheap clutch probably, I peeked into inspection hole and saw a cheap blue looking pressure plate.. it's supposedly a stage 3, feels like **** on take offs, rough and what not.. but once rpms go up doesn't seem to be slipping yet.. I think it may have a larger FP, its loud, but I'm too lazy to peek and check, doesn't really smoke unless I'm really heavy footing it.. catch can hasn't filled in almost year that I've owned it.. change oil every 3-4k so far and oil looks good, not too low, I LOVE IT!.. just shows it's age in cosmetic stuff.. like scratches and dents, TB doesn't help I've been wanting to go bigger on power, but I like it where it's at for now lol. I think I'll save up sometime and pick up a beater and strip this one down and replace all worn parts over a few years and get a new/rebuild engine in it, paint it and enjoy it or sell it and buy a IX .. anyways, I love it and just thought I'd share my experience hope it keeps going strong

sorry don't know how to make image smaller :E
thought I'd update.. been a year and car still runs good @ 222k now, since last post I have cleaned up the Exterior and also have added GSC S2 Cams / Beehives / no tick and a IX Turbo.. made 351/362 on a DynoJet .. clutch is still feels a little weak and I'm looking to hopefully get the engine refreshed with goodies and add a FP-Black this year.. but we'll see what happens

Thats bad *** man. Is that pump or E85? Those are some good numbers which shows that the engine is still healthy

thanks! that's on 91 lately been running a little too rich, hoping it's a leak somewhere in the IC piping and I need to pressure test soon.

great numbers for 91 oct. This makes me feel better now about getting close to 100k.. After seeing so many cars with high miles and running so well it makes me think that miles is just a number!

Definitely.. Even when I saw the gallon and he showed me it I was kinda scared.. Haha, once he painted it we were all shocked.. Only problem is that some time while car was getting painted another kid with a evo showed up to get his car painted.. He saw mine and decided to copy me now I wouldn't care, but we live in like a town with a small pop. Haha.. So it's kind of stupid on his part.. But oh well. :/

re: high mileage.

i purchased my car with 111k on the clock and lowish compression in one cylinder. i decided to drive the car until the compression started dropping more. it never did, even up to 125k miles. this was a lot of autox, HPDE, Time Attack, etc. at the power levels in my sig below (usually on pump gas). the motor just kept going and going and going. that's why i don't shy from high mileage on these cars, assuming they are taken care of decently.
i'm rebuilding my engine now, but only because everything had to come out anyway (and i happened on a free set of pistons and cheap rods LOL).
i'm replacing all suspension, diff carrier, and mount bushings while i'm in there. never getting rid of the Evo.

great cars, great engines.

How low was the compression? Was it to the point causing dyno numbers to be low?

I had 90psi in cylinder number three. Car ran and idled great. No complaints. It held tight no matter what I threw at it.

There are like 3 posts in this thread over 200k, and one over 300k...

That's too funny. I have an '03 VIII with 130k on the motor. Last week I ran compression and it was ~120psi except for number 3 which was 90psi. Same thing though, no issues whatsoever. I daily drive it through all four seasons here in NH. It's hasn't let me down yet.
