Yup. Clutch exploded so I figured may as well rebuild. Otherwise, I'd still be driving on it. Cylinder walls looked great. Why not? LOL

Exactly! I plan on driving it through this winter and upcoming spring-fall. Next winter, I'll be prepared to start a rebuild. Not sure which direction I'll go in, but I have plenty of time to decide.

I was dead set on a 2.2, but I road race the car and prefer reliability over the added torque and power, which I don't need any way.
I spent a year collecting parts so when it was time, I was ready. Sooo much less stress.
Good luck, dude!

Nice! I'll probably be in the same boat by the time the build comes around. Thanks man! I'll be sure to start a build thread when it happens.

Are you positive that it was the bottom end? The bad compression could have been caused by valves that are burned or valves that arent seating properly.

Head was pressure checked and inspected. Checked out perfectly. I thought the same, seeing how it never got worse, smoked, etc.

I put 182,000 miles on my first EVO IX MR. Bought it with 9 miles on it. I'm on my second EVO IX MR now (3rd EVO overall...EVO X SE...mistake), and I'm at 128,XXX miles on it now. I bought it with 60,000 miles on it. I've rebuilt the motor, and transmission. Transmission is a TRE 6 speed, and the motor was built by Evolution Dynamics. The previous owner was a lying POS. Didn't do any of the maintenance required on the car. I was told it was all done except for the timing belt. I found out that was a lie as soon as I cracked the drain plugs. Really found out when the motor gave out. Car runs great now thanks to Kevin though...so there's that haha

My EVO's have always been both daily driver, and weekend racer. I had a BMW 335i for a while as a DD with my second IX MR, but I never really drove it so I sold it. I have that S2000 still now, but you know the story behind that. Hopefully it'll be gone soon. I don't think I've driven it once since I got my EVO back. I need to go start it and ride it around the block one day just so the battery doesn't die.

i only DD my civic instead because of the mileage to both my workplaces. well, that and my car is a rolling billboard for the shop and a cop magnet in my town. i still drive it on occasion just for fun. DDing the civic makes me REALLY enjoy my time in the Evo, though.
you can always sell me the S2k (i wish, but kidding).

High Miles EVO

UPDATE: Front strut shot at 122k, plus bearings.

Installed new Bilsteins and bearings at 124k, handling is back to being Evolicious!

120k mi on my 2005 8 SSL (Apex silver). I’ve owned since 5k mi, my trusted daily driver. Some basic bolt-ons and a mild tune, otherwise stock. No track events sadly but lots of great all-weather driving. So much fun in snow! About to do 120k mi service. May need a little extra TLC as the potholes have been brutal this winter. I'll drive for another year before trying to sell and buy something newer.
