Re: EVO vs STI. easy choice? i dont think so...

Do a search. This topic has been covered to death.

In short: if you want a terrific handling car that's easy to upgrade, get the Evo. If you want un understeering pig that's marginally faster in a straight line, get the STi.

The Evo is a finesse car whereas the STi is a brute (think M3 vs. Mustang, or Porsche 911 vs. C5 Corvette). The cars feel and handle totally differently. The Evo feels like a RWD car whereas the STi feels like a FWD car. It's all up to your personal taste.

FWIW, the Evo interior might seem cheap, but at least you get real Recaros and a Momo wheel, instead of the Recaro knock-offs in the STi. The Evo interior is a great place to DRIVE.

i have driven the sti a few times, and have two evos, if you want a racecar/track car get an evo, if you are getting old and want something more comfortable get the sti, as far as speed, you would be able to tell the difference

Ya like southern crane said you got more for the STI than the EVO , go with what you want. Thse cons on the EVO from your prespective outway the STI. Although you forgot to put in for the EVO is handling. But coming from your Z you like to go straight very very fast But if your into moding you can always change things you dont like

Good Luck on your quest for the holy grill

why are you considering an evo if everything you want is in the sti? upgrades are readily available for both cars, though perhaps more for the evo. you miss some major pros/cons for both cars, but that's selective thinking i guess... like the better steering and handling in the evo...

i don't know, i guess it comes down to what you're more comfy with... the tried and true engine in the evo, or the new, aluminum engine...

who knows, you cant really go wrong with either car. i personally think the sti's styling will definately age badly... put the two together and the evo simply looks more raw and mean...

Like what they all said.

You are missing what the EVO is compared to the STi. More balanced, nice steering, and great handling.

Have you sat in the STi and looked at the steering wheel and the seats? If you got glued to the dash, I guess Ill just have to see you in the other team and smoke yah.

Both are great cars. Test drive both, then decide.

Oh yeah, searching for this overbeaten topic wont hurt either.

I think he was at least expecting us to gush about all the great things our Evo's have to offer..

I certainly don't think he'd get a really unbiased opinion of the cars..

However, from what it looks like, everyone has been fairly honest, or at least their opinions are fairly reasonable about the virtues.

Since I have not yet driven an STI, I cannot say which is better form a personal standpoint.. But all of the magazines have preferred the Evo for track performance, braking, handling, etc.. While most found the handling to be a little harsh on the streets. Where the STI was considered a more comfortable driver...

Its unbelievable how closely matched these cars are.. The STI edges the Evo in acceleration and (HP/Torque) which they could tell by feel, and the Evo edged out in the handling.. What it comes down to is if these two cars lined up against eachother, its likely that the better driver would end up being the victorious. (Stock for stock)

I am admittedly biased, but from coming from a V8 rear drive musclecar background, I found the Evo VERY easy to work on, and got up to speed on hits hardware and how to modify it very quickly.

I am not a huge fan of the STI styling, but the truth is it really doesn't look THAT much different than the evo at a distance.. and when I first saw the Evo's new nose, I found it a bit homely (Though it grew on me and I am now infatuated with the good looks of the car.. hehe, it truely is subjective eh?)

If your looking for brutal acceleration out of the box.. Well, I'd have to say there are other cars out there that will do better..

Both of these cars just do everything well, and that is what makes them so attractive.. So far the upgrades for the Evo seem to be a little easier to do, and results from simple changes are pretty dramatic. I'm sure its no different on the STI, just the Evo has a head start at the moment.

I still vote for the EVO, and a nicely modified Evo is both reliable, and quick as hell for a daily driver.. The new STI engine still has to prove itself, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I have a personal bias against the STI, not because of what it is, but because I have seen SO many WRX's on the road around here, that its just not "Different" enough for me.

thanks all for your input. i know the evo is a better handling car. the Soobee dealer wouldnt even let me test drive the STI, where as the EVO8 dealer had no problem with me taking a spin.

from what the dealer said, they dont let anyone test drive the cars, they dont want any miles on them. they said if your basically gonna make up your mind after test driving, they would let you, but i think they just thought i was looking for a joy ride. their loss. i spoke to another dealer, and they were more customer friendly, so the other dealer can eat a bowl of Dick.

i am still seriously considering the evo, i do like the red much better than any of the sti colors. plus it would match the Z.

FWIW, my decision came down to the HUGE hood scoop on the STI. I could live with taking off the wing on the EVO and have a daily driver that’s lowkey but there was no way to hide the scoop on the STI. Keep in mind, there will always be someone with a faster car than you , no matter what you drive.

you won't lose either way.

it's preference.

i love the styling of both.

but the handling stole my heart away. it's to for.
