300-320 whp is cake. A few basic mods to make the turbo breather easier (downpipe, exhaust), some basic air-fuel tuning, maybe cams, and a boost controller and you're there.

You can find a new EVO for less than the price of the used STI.

Re: Is this a good deal on a new EVO?

Hi, I'm a newbie soon to get a new Evo. I looked at a few dealers in my area and found an 03 Evo w/ sunroof and wing, w/ 19 miles on it. They say their invoice on it is 28,965. Base plus invoice on sunroof and wing plus destination. Does that sound correct?

They will sell it to me for 29K and change - still below sticker. The sales mgr says he is unwilling to go below invoice.

Maybe a dumb question but is this a good deal? Should I hold out for lower price or go for it?
In the grand scheme of things 19 miles is basically nothing. The invoice they quoted you is probably correct and includes advertising. Advertising is included on the invoice the manufacturer uses to bill the dealer. It is not included in edmunds.com pricing. On Subaru you have to add $275 to edmunds.com invoice to get true invoice.

I'd offer $28,900 plus taxes and fees. That would be a fair price for it and you'd be getting a fair deal.

There is no such thing as "floorplan allowance". Don't believe every post you read.

Holdback is set up on a sliding scale. If they sell the day a vehicle comes off the truck they get the full amount. On day 91 it's all gone. On day 90 they get 1/90 of the holdback amount. They do not get the full amount unless it's sold the day it arrives. Don't believe every post you read.

At the end of the quarter they may get some unit bonus or other bonus but there's no guarantee of that so they have to sell vehicles based on that individual sale. If they get something then it's just what it's called... bonus.

LDB, anyone who has seen a mitsubishi invoice will notice a line item labeled "Dealer Floorplan Assistance". I'm guessing you have excellent knowledge of subaru's dealer pricing, etc. But why would you assume that applies to mitsubishi?

I'm playing nice, but I can assure you that you are wrong. My price on a mitsubishi is a computation of all these various invoice items, so I have access to the invoices and various other information. Dealer Floorplan Assistance is 2% of base (w/o options) MSRP -for all mitsubishi products, and in this case is $579.74 for the Evolution...any evolution...at any dealer in the country.

If everyone here worked together, we would have a complete understanding of the #'s for Evo's so people on this board could make informed purchases. Instead, it seems that everyone wants to be a know it all, and tell us how it is. LDB, you are an example. Tell us EXACTLY what you know about Subarus, or Chevys or whatever else, and build this board's knowledge. But when you post something that includes info I know to be false, I have to discredit your entire post...and that may mean missing some real information you can contribute.

Give us a post we CAN believe.

LDB-
I just noticed that in another thread you posted that you are a car salesman, and your employer also sells Mitsubishi's

Assuming this is true, then you already have access to the info I just described...So you are just LYING. Way to break the mold buddy! Behavior like that is why the car salesman stereotype exists. I don't want to hear you whining about not understanding why your profession isn't respected.

Good for you.

Please reserve the "car salesman" bull**** for some other consumers advocate board or Consumer Reports thread..Nobody needs the "holier than thou attitude " that you have been throwing out on this thread..

This appears to be a healthy discussion with different views and opinions on what "invoice" is....NO need to get on anyones case and insult someone with reference to "har gel" or "gold chains"..

You want an informed opinion? Ask yourself..

You seem to know it all.

(my polite way of saying..be f****ing nice)

I lurked until I couldn't stand it

I'll try to tone it down...but you know the hair gel comment had you laughing...even bluevilevo said so.

Certainly don't know it all, but you have to admit it sure is frustrating when people post info that is false...I just don't understand the motivation.

My 1st evo was 29,700 my 2nd was 28,000 even. From different lots. You can do 28,000 even all day long if it's worth $500 looking a round a little.

Mitsu vs Subaru?

Okay, this is another Evo vs WRX thread, however I'm also hoping to get some insight about the car itself. But first let me give you a little background.

I currently drive a 01 Mustang V6 auto. It really is a piece of crap. It is the most poorly handling vehicle I've ever had. It's slow, and boring to drive. I live in NY and it's a horrible winter vehicle. It's like suicide everytime I drive to work in the morning. I currently have a 92 Isuzu Rodeo as my winter beater, but it's just a pain in the butt to switch cars, insurance etc in the winter. And lastly, I need more space in a vehicle, 4 doors is winning, 2 sucks.

So I started looking at WRXs, I test drove a 04 WRX 5-spd (I don't know how to drive stick, but the salesman let me try it out, and I sorta got the hang of it after 15 mins, was jerky, but I didn't drop the cluth or do anything too stupid). I DEFFINETLY want a manual though, so much fun. Auto = never again.

I'm looking to spend $25-27k if possible. I realize I'll be looking at closer to $28-29 out the door though, I think? Is that right? So basically I'm looking at a REGULAR WRX vs an Evo, while I understand for most this would be a no-brainer. I guess my only worry is that this will be a year round, daily driver. No winter car, and I drive alot, so I don't want some extremely jarring, bone breaking ride all the time. Stiff is good, handling is good, but how bad is the ride in terms of comfort? I still haven't test driven one, which I plan to do. However I'm not looking to purchase until this spring, so I'll be looking at 04's most likely.

So basically what it comes down to, can the Evo be a daily driver or is it for weekend thrashing when you put your Mercedes in the garage?

your first post...the Evo is great, but the wheels require a lot of cleaning. image is more important than comfort, buy an Evo.

The evo is not a cheep car to upkeep, $60 oil changed, 800 for a set of tires that you will need about every 12-15k miles, gets about 20mpg it's not too great and the ride is a little stiff. I think if you are streaching yourself out for the evo you should not get it. Ya it will be fun until you get you 1st payment. A car should not be anymore a month then say 25% of your income. Please be smart and don't get strapped for a car. That's why you see all of these evo's for sale.

The EVO is a daily driver for me and I have mine modded. I think that is the case for a great deal of the EVO owners.
