Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
according to a friend of mine who works at a mitsu dealership, after there early morning monthly meetings, the higher ups said the MR has no chance in hell of coming here (basically), and that unless the 04 evo's sell like wildfire that mitsu usa is seriously considering killing production of the evos.
basically, unless the 04's sell well then those are the last years for them, and the MR has a 95% chance of never making it here.
hell, japan isnt even dead set on being a normally produced car, they made a couple but are in the waiting process (early rumors from mitsu say they may not even do a full scale production for the MR)
im just saying what i heard from people in backdoor monthly meetins, take it for what you will

I don't get it.
You know, kudos to
for bringing a stripped down Evo and charging less (novel and appropriate, agreed), but why bring in X numbers of RSs when it is truly a specialty car (hence the Urban Jungle package).
If you want it, order it with money upfront. Don't divert Evos from being MRs or GSRs... especially when people are ready to remorgage, sell organs, etc to have an MR.
Especially if you're a cash-strapped
who can charge a premium.

Just drove an Evo for the first time....
I've been thinking about getting rid of my $620/month car payment (which I still have two years left to pay on), and I was looking around at a pre-owned private dealership this week. They had a silver '03 Evo on the floor with 12k miles. They were asking $26800 for it (no bargaining, bottom line), which I thought was a little high for that mileage, but they offered to let me drive it, so I figured why not. I've always respected the numbers they deliver, and I love the looks, so I agreed.
The feel of the seats is just amazing. Those Recaros are awesome. The clutch seemed a little shaky (I don't know if that's normal or not), but it gripped fine. I actually loved the sound of the engine too. The acceleration was impressive (actually more than I expected), but getting used to the powerband and engine characteristics took a little bit. I currently drive an '03 Z06 Corvette, so needless to say the characteristics are very, very different. The AWD launch (yes, I did it....hahaha) is amazing though. I don't know how many times the clutch could take that though. I wouldn't think they would build them THAT strong. The handling is what thoroughly impressed me. The Z06 handles great, but it feels like a big car. The Evo felt like a slot car (similar to something like an M3). I got it up to speed a few times, but I never had a chance to cruise the freeway. Does the front end hunt when you're cruising along at 70-80mph? I know this has been a characteristic of some AWD cars I've driven.
Anyway, I thought the car was great. I could either keep the $620/month payment on the Z06 for 2.5 more years, or sell it, buy this other Evo I found ('03, 900 miles, $25k) and finance about $4k and be done with it. Money is not exactly growing on trees right now either. Refinancing is out of the question.....I'm not going to take a huge hit when the C6 comes out and then still be paying 4 more years......no way. Do you think Evos will hold their value well - even when the '04s come out?
Opinions would be appreciated.
Great to be a part of your forum!

id wait for the MR...for 4k more why not get a new one...being that the cluth sucks on those things...i personally wouldnt buy a used one...not knowing what it had gone through
I bought my 03 evo for $28,600 brand new, with Sunroof, only 25 miles on the clock. I would say that price is definately a little high. You could get a brand new one that has never been launched for that much. ;-)
Hope that helps a little.

Ryan:
The $26,800 price tag on a 12k mileage is very high. In Ohio, dealers still have NEW Evos and are willing to sell for that amount. If you don't mind buying used, then check eBay or Autotrader for cheaper ones. For your information:
-highway cruising is very stable
-clutch pedal should not shake
-clutch cannot handle too many launches

Kinda depends on how those 900 miles were lived. If it was owned by a 16 y/o who never drove a stick and loved to drag/street race, you're gonna end up with a bad deal. If it was driven reasonably and there is no damage/wear, then it's an OK deal.

get a new 2003 , got mine for 28500 that was a while ago. I am sure you can get a brand new at invoice. And waiting for the MR is a toss up. Also its really not 4k more. After all the dealer options and after taxes etc.. Your looking at like 6k more. I could drop a sick turbo kit in my car for 6k
Hi Ryan,
I have drove 2 Corvette's this week, one new the other 2001, both coupe's. I own a EVO 8, no doubt each car is completely different. I am selling my EVO, and was looking at a new Vette the discounts are huge right now.
I have decided against the Vette, for my own reasons, however, the EVO has it strengths and so does the Vette. I drive 25k per year and use the EVO daily, it is a great high performance car, the ride is stiff, especially for my old body (47yrs old).
The EVO is a race car I believe, it does everything well, and you can modify it to beat anything street legal.
Corvette people are loyal to thier cars, I was on the Vette forum this week, and metioned I was shopping for new Vette, and that I owned an EVO. I also, mentioned EVO was as fast as a stock C5. I have ran a coupe and we are neck and neck up to 80mph.
My point two different cars and different following. You should seen the response when I said my EVO could keep up with a C5, seems that lite a fire.
If you want performance and a car that will make you smile, and make Mustang/Camaro drivers ill, then the EVO is the car.
Many have had clutch problems, I have 23k on my EVO with no problems of any kind, that what I expect from a car.
I wonder how you Z06 has been, trouble free or not?
Just my .02 cents,
Michigan Steve
