either car is nice both are pretty bad *** cars...i'd go with the evo though...all the guys i know down here with evo's swear by them...and after test driving both cars the evo just feels better....it's definitely a preference thing...drive both and then make up you mind...

MOTHER OF GOD THAT'S A BIG TURBO!
Anyway, yeah I got into this whole rally car thing because of the WRX and I about crapped myself when I found out that the STi was coming. Then when I found out about the 2.5L thing I was really sure I wanted the STi, especially since the Evo is "tuned down" from the Japanese version and lacked the active diff.
BUT...
Then I read all the car mag articles, and sat in on some discussion here with WRX tuner (and now Evo owner) Shiv Pathak. The moral of the story is, it's easier to tune an engine (especially the legendary 4G63) for more power than is is to tweak a suspension. I didn't buy my car for looks, I bought it for the divine purpose of DRIVING.
I'll re-iterate something said many times on this board...
"The Evo is like your ugly girlfriend who's good in bed." I don't know about you but I like having sex more than going out on dates. Who's with me!

The Sti has a bunch of little gremlins to get past before you can start making power
Injectors, turbo, and fuel pump are all maxxed. Just putting a turboback on the car will give you horrible boost creep and make you hit fuel cut everytime you hit the gas.
Having both the STi and the Evo i can say that i would definately take the Evo any day over the STi. I mean the STi is a great car, but the Evo is far superior in everything except the interior which means nothing.

just have to port the wastegate and ur good to go
good luck with ur decision, i went with sti and have never looked back. One reason was because its a mitsubishi, and there warrantys and dealerships suck ballz (well over by me anyways).
I went sti because i think it is gorgeous, that and there is only about 2-3 where i live and there are like freakin 12 evos.
and i got a killer deal on it
not hating, both cars are great, you just have to find your car

Larry and the boys at Sound Performance really know what they are doing when it comes to Supras and 300z's. Trust me I know from seeing many of their street monsters prowling my area. My buddy rode with one of the guys at the shop who had a supra that could break the tires loose in 4th gear. That's scary

interior is ****
exterior is better(IMO)
300hp vs 270
I test drove both cars side by side. There is a rather large difference between the two. Honestly I think the interior is better in the Evo. The seats are much better in the Evo and so is the steering wheel. The STI does not come with a stereo or speakers. My wife was actually the first to drive each car. While driving the STI she thought it was pretty cool, after she had been driving the Evo for one minute she was like "I want this one!!". Totally different animal. I do wish the Evo had a 6 speed but it really doesn't need it. I also did not like the HUGE "Ricer looking" hood scoop on the STI. I didn't get the huge fin on my Evo, I like being sleeper. The Evo doesn't come with and it's not an option, cruise control. The Evo is several thousand dollars less. Either way they are both excellent cars, you couldn't go wrong with either one of them but I can tell you that I am VERY glad that I got the Evo instead of the Sti. Good Luck!!!Originally posted by joel(PA)

PS-I would defiantly drive both of them before you buy, I think that it is just idiotic that a dealer wont let you drive a $30K car before you buy it!! I would tell them to FU#$ OFF and buy one elsewhere and after you buy it, drive it straight over to that previous dealer and show the sales manager your new car!!

the two are both amazing cars... unfortunately the sti handling will never surpass the evo even if you drop it with stiffer shocks.. the evo just has super stiff chassis plus superior suspension... i believe for the price difference in the sti and evo (like $2000), you easily do a few bolt-ons to make it also 300hp... in another words you can spend the same amount of money on the sti or a slightly modded evo and get the evo's better handling... now the thing to decide is the exterior styling (in my opinion also the evo),

I agree with AustinEvo. After testdriving the cars back to back, I found that I enjoyed the Evo's interior more than the STi's (to my suprise). A few examples: Evo had a decent stereo, STi didn't. Evo had floor mats, STi didn't. Also, the evo has less of the "mouse fur" texture on the headliner than the STi and I personally found the blue smattered all over the STis interior fairly obnoxious. Another thing that I noticed is that while both A pillar covers are plastic, the Evo's is speckled and textured in such a way that it looks like a higher quality cloth covering while the STis was just the typical japanese econobox greasy gray plastic. Same goes for the B pillar covers as well. Finally, I find the titanium satin "waterfall" along the dash of the Evo an interesting detail that helps break up the monotony of an otherwise stereotypical dash.
As far as looks, I think the Evo has a better face looking straight on. The STi has a better profile, and both look pretty bad (IMO
) from the rear as I don't like big wings (however, the Evo's is CF, less obnoxious w/out the "double decker," and actuallyis adjustable and maybe even functional
).

FYI It isn't adjustable. The instruction manual is either for a JDM or EVO VIIOriginally posted by A418t81

According to the owners manual that came with my car, it is adjustable. The manual shows the procedure as well as illustrations on how to do it.

You're missing a con for the EVO. I've never seen so many mechanical problems for a new car. The EVO is a better handler and has great upgrade potential, but cheerleading aside, Subaru has a better quality rating.

i have been talking to george @ boost-solutions. he's pretty much convinced me to go with the evo over the sti. plus the evo is cheaper.... which is a big plus in my situation. got any pics of your Z? your member 206 on tt.net, your old school!!!
