Congrats man

.... it's much worse than what you be goin' through ..... hey the evo is bad **** ... I absolutely love mine .... but remember that you are trading two dayz for many years of driving utopia! In the meantime .... shop for some mods, screw your girlfriend/boyfriend?, drink some beer, work a few hours, and quit jinxin' yourself with these posts to ensure your evo arrives on time! Good luck and a warm welcome when it arrives!
Hey guys,
I have been reading this forum ever since I put down my deposit on an STI about 5 months ago. I must say that most of your posts have been very helpful in my decision process as have posts on i-club and nasioc. My story is that I have been waiting an lusting so long for the STI that I have been blinded by the simple facts. Both are great cars with over a decade of great history behind them, so you can understand how gut renching my decission was. And when my dealer called me to say that I was getting my STI in two weeks or less I suddenly felt like I was being pressured into a bad choice. Just these past couple of days I started thinking about each car with a level-headed approach and the bottom line is that the EVO can run head to head with the larger dissplacment STI, and possibly even better it, with fewer parts and better looks, IMO. Of course their was a pretty noticable price difference as well. STI = $31,595 standard, and EVO = amazingly $28,700 w/ sunroof and CF spoiler, yes that about $2,500 off msrp.
Other factors that contributed to my decision was that even though the engine in the STI was larger, the 4g63 has been aroung forever and has much more JDM aftermarket support. I am not saying that the STI's engine sucks by any measure but simply that I prefer a car that is supported and tested by many tuning companies around the world in order to have as many modification options as possible. This is important to me because the car will eventually be shipped to my home in the middle east and the evo's their are basically LHD J-spec, so service, maintaince and parts will not be an issue at all. Think about the hell I will have to go through getting parts for a USDM STI in J-spec market.
So without further ado I give you my new beast of a baby. My Rally Red Evo VIII

Congrats!!!
So.... now that you have the car of your dreams, what are you impressions of it? Come on man, tell us how it feels to drive it! Is it everything you hoped it would be?
Nice color choice by the way.

I debated and waited just like you did. In the end the cost difference for me is just enough to get a 2nd set of wheels and tires for winter on the EVO...especially since both cars need winter tires.
They are VERY close in performance and since I'm not racing it that made only a tiny difference. I also truly believe the EVO is easier and more fun to drive fast. I'll take that over sheer power any day. I've passed many more powerful cars on the track with a less-powerful great handling car.
Every magazine review raves about how great the EVO handles and you have to love a car that can out stop and out slalom almost every car out there, especially in every day driving. Being agile and easy to drive fast not only makes for a fun car but a safe car.
After that I assumed the Sti had the advantage of a 6-speed and DCCD. Again the magazine reviewers were never able to get better performance out of the DCCD settings beyond their automatic mode so it's only a toy as far as how I will use it. They all loved the 5-speed in the EVO and said you'd never miss 6th gear and I know I won't.
From there it was easy. The EVO has a sunroof and the Sti does not. The EVO has a rear wiper and the Sti does not. I'm not racing this car and it IS my everyday driver so the sunroof (especially on a Tarmac Black car) and wiper ARE important to me.
I love the Recaro seats and even though the Sti has sport seats all of the reviewers complained about their lack of support in turns. The Recaro's fit my frame like a glove.
My only "want" is for cruise control. The Sti has it the EVO does not. I use it quite a bit on my GSX now just to stay 10-under the speed limit. I hear it can be added but I haven't found the details on that yet.
I went and looked at an EVO and I think they are simply just a nicer looking car than the Sti.
Bottom line...I bought a Tarmac Black EVO Monday night and it will be arriving in about 2 weeks. I can't wait.

Thanks for the kind words guys,
I have absolutely no regrets at all. The EVO is an amazing machine. And BTW, I have driven the JDM STI version 6 and I have been in a GSR EVO 7 back home. I can honestly say that the USDM EVO is nothing less than an improvement on both car. In my driving experience these past two days, I have noticed that the EVO is much more balanced car that STI version 6. This is going to sound kinda stupid, but the magazines were right on the money with their descriptions. I am glad that I made the right choice even though people are always telling me that I can't judge because I haven't driven the new USDM STI. To them I simply say, bollocks. The magazine reviews are extremely consistent with my own impressions about the EVO 8 and the feel of the USDM STI sounded much like my slightly nervous driving experiences in the STI 6, except of the the torque lag. I am not a "magazine racer" but, a firm beleiver that the perfromance #'s are supposed to give you an idea about the relative capabilites of a car. The feel and confidence that a car inspires can not be summed up in numbers but, the reviewers did a acurate job of describing the EVO and I have a strong FEELING that the they did the same for STI.

Shoulda went with the STI
Not for the reasons you'd initially think I'd say, but for the simple fact that the US STI is better than the STI's available in the middle east. When you shipped it over, you could have sold it for a premium and not had to worry about servicing it. Then you could have bought a full blown JDM EVO. I imagine you'd take a pretty big hit if you ever tried to resell the US EVO in a JDM market.

QAT-R:
Congrats first of all. Second, i have gone through the same exact dilema that eventualy lead to my withdrawal of the $500 deposit on STi (which I held for 5 months) and resulted in a Tarmac Black EVO sitting in my garage.
The funny thing is that I also used to own a RSX-S, which has just been sold
Can't wait until the break-in is over....
