I bought mine. I'd been taught that you should avoid financing something that is only going to depreciate, with the exception of course being when you're sure you stand to make more money by not tying up the funds than by buying it outright. In my case that meant being able to earn 4.25% interest (best I could get) plus enough to compensate for the depreciation of the car which I guessed would be around 10% per year for the first three years.
Not being a Warren Buffett type, I parted with the cash up front.

went for my first test ride NOT drive today, and it was everything i expected and more! this thing is gonna have to be financed! As much as I wanna wave cash in the guy's faces I dont think I can get that kinda ends togther at one time.
god i want an evo.
god i want an evo.
About 7.3% of new car buyers in 2002 paid cash.
See http://www.fandimag.com/stats.cfm
More interesting info there:
Average profit for a dealership:
$326 per new car sold
$493 per new car finance deal closed
$373 per new car extended warranty sold
$366 per new car GAP insurance provided
The profit on the car is the lowest of the four. Who knew?

Bought mine for cash -- no trade in, just a big check.
Refinanced my house, took $25K cash out, and due to the record-low mortgage rates, my payments are lower now than before the refinance.
But trust me, my mortgage payment still dwarfs your car payment.

that's great and all but lets not be like that and I'll bet just about anyone in CA has mortgage payments tha dwarfs yours.
I'm still waiting for the heat to die out before I buy mine. I'm hoping for a GT-A version as well.

I lived in CA for 12 years. My previous home before moving to Virginia was in Torrance, CA. And like most people, I spent more for this house then I got for that house in CA, and my mortgage payment is higher than it was in CA.
I'm not sure what you mean by "lets not be like that" -- I'm not putting anybody down or anything. I'm just telling about my own "creative financing" -- how to buy an Evo and not pay for it until I sell my house.

okay we're getting off topic now but try multiplying that by 10 for CA.
Just in the city I live in, the average selling price is ~450K.
GT-A = automatic. But not just any automatic. From what I've read it's specifically calibrated/tuned for track use. Downshifts with pretty much no delay.

How long ago did you live in CA? because in the past 6-8 years real estate literally exploded. Several areas doubled in price price. From 300K to 600K. Several 500K houses are now over 1Million.
I guess I miss read this part, "But trust me, my mortgage payment still dwarfs your car payment." as being I have more than you. I'm all for creative financing, my neighbor has a brand new M3 and recently got 330Xi using the same creativity.
