Just got, buying, reviewing, thinking about a new Evo [Ultra Hyper Mega MERGE]
Wow, every repsonse is helpful...
Concerning the amount of money, it won't be too much of a hassle. As much as I will pull in from my job, I can always run to mommy and daddy if something is NECESSARY like a new clutch or winter tires.
Also, what about the new Evo's with the AYC and ACD? I knew that the American version came without the AYC, are they going to put it back on for 2005 models?
Fireball - Wow, that would be awesome. I live about an hour from the WI border and have grandparents who live in Appleton, WI. Any help would be amazing. The MSRP dealership listing shows a dealership pretty close to my house and I was planning on taking a trip over there with my buddy from UTI and test driving an Evo and getting a quote for a trade in. But if you can help me in any way, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
THANKS GUYS!

You can search for topics on AYC, ACD, 6spd, etc. I think it's blind faith for those who are waiting for them to be in US EVO's. I'm guessing no changes will be made until the next generation. Besides, if an EVO can beat a more powerful STI with DCCD around the track, then that stuff isn't necessary in the EVO. Also, all those feature will add up to probably another $3-5K which is why they left them out.
It's too far off to say if the 2005 Evo will be any different. Don't wait. You don't need ACD/AYC.
Test drives of Evo's are still pretty difficult to come by. However, come up here and I'll give you a ride in mine.

I don't know much about the AYC/ACD stuff, other than it's electronic slip differentials, which isn't really that important to me. I'm kind of focused on getting the car fairly soon, because I spend long hours of the day just reading forums and what not and I have alot of free time. Come graduation in January, I will have LOADS of free time and my college choice is 26 miles away. The only aspect of the jdm evo that I would really like is the 6 spd, which would help alot on the highway pertaining to gas mileage. I hope I can cruise Chicago soon with my new tarmac black evo! ::wishful thinking::
P.S. - Are people putting Evo 7 tailights on their Evo's or ordering the JDM tailights? Or are they painting them? The only things about the Evo I don't like are the nostrils and the Altezzas.
Everything else is

People are doing all of the above to the tails on their Evo's.
I have used Evo VII tails off of a wrecked JDM Evo. A few vendors on this site sell brand new Evo VII tails. Some people are doing the ghetto spray painting of their tails. And a few people are getting a really trick red coating layered and bonded over their stock Evo VIII tails.

As far as the tails go...i bought a set of brand new Evo VII tails.
Concerning the purchase of the car it may be very tough and almost impossible for you. I bought mine for reatil(almost 31k), put 7k down and got high 4% interest. MY payment is still 520 a month for 60 months. I would say with everything(payment, insurance, and gas) my evo runs me about $720-750 a month. If you can get a great interest rate and they give you what you want in trade it is definitely a good possibility, but be prepared to have no spending money unless you can beef up your hours or wage. Good luck with the possible EVO

I really hate the tail lights on the EVO VIII's, just not my style. As far a getting an EVO, my friend is paying about $500 a month plus insurance and gas. He's doesn't seem to mind even if he's working his *** off for the car, he's loves driving it
I drive an M3 and this is what I think of the Evo...
First off, Ive been reading these forums for about a week, and Ive learned a lot from them, just wanted to say hi. I drive a 95 alpine white M3 coupe, with some basic mods.
Today I went to the local mitsu dealer and went through all that paper work crap just so I could drive the EVO 8. After about a 1/2 hour BS, they pulled the yellow Evo 8 out of the showroom for me. It was fully loaded... all 2 options (not a bad thing), and the leather package which I didnt like that much (rather have just the normal). So... I guess ill make a list type thing...
Things I liked:
- the second I got in the car the seats/steering were comfortable
- the shifting isnt a huge deal for most people, but its feels way better than the BMW shifter.
- THROTTLE RESPONSE is amazing!
- the feeling you get when you get that car going... after 3500 RPM it moveessss
- brake pedal has a nice solid feeling
- stiff suspension, w/ a lot less body roll than Im used too
- the sound of a turbo
theres more, I just cant think of anymore right now...
Things I didnt like (or just missed):
- the huge wheel gap! car looks so much better lowered...
- clutch felt really soft, and engaged higher than Im used to.
- all the crap I had to put up with just to be able to drive, if i filled out 1 more paper I could have bought the car...
- the BOV sound
I didnt get to drive this car to its limits so I cant really comment on the performance vs my car, even though it did feel faster 3000-6000 rpm 2nd gear. I like how its a drivers car, unlike a lot of sports cars that come out these days that have a lot of computer controled junk that takes away from the driver.
I think I want one! but Im going to hold off until they come down in price a little, or until I can find a used one for 20-25k. That will give some time for some first year kinks to be worked out and me to save up for a nice big down payment. I got it planned out... white or black, with no sunroof and a CF spoiler
but until then... I envy you Evo drivers, you have great cars

lol. when i first saw this i was like oh, lord! this guy is gonna bash it! but i stand (sit) corrected.
i do agree with you one the things you listed that were (wrong) with the car. besides the paper work. and i hate wheel gap just as much as the next guy.
i know a guy who owns one. and one thing i didnt know was the seats are suade. wow.
i love white & CF. black and CF will work too.
the guy i drove with pushed the hell outta it. i was seriously thrown back in the seat in the 3 gears he went through. i was amazed! rides on rails!!
i know, i drive the crap lancer. i dont get thrown back in my seats and its just now starting to turn well. (suspension mods)
its a ride i wont soon forget.

Thats great man, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Evo. I never owned a sports car and expensive car before, my Evo is my first turbo/awd and expensive car. After 5 months of waiting, I finally got it. Got it for MSRP. Hell I don't had to test drive it coz I know it is a nice car with all the goodies on it such as turbo, awd, stiff suspension, brembo brakes, and so much more. As soon as I went to dealer, found out they're selling it for MSRP I made the deal and brought my Evo home. Since then, I love driving it everytime.
wow, yeah i thought this was gunna be one huge argument.
My brother owns a black M3 1995 damn nice car.
He wouldn't let me touch his car until i got the Evo, after i let him finally drive the evo he fell in love with it!
a day later he finally let me drive his m3, the first thing i loved about it was the all engine feel it provided, the engery serging through the car just was awesome.
Both are great cars!
I'll take pictures of both of them sometime soon.
Btw, i didn't test drive the evo before i got it ... the guy wouldn't let me.
Then again i never really pushed for the test drive, i just wanted the car soo damn much.
